Cincinnati Reds: How soon is too soon to panic....?

Featured Replies

Yeah 8 games is pretty early I'd say.

But it didn't take long for us to have to brandish this much heard cliche'. Another is " you can't win the pennant in April, but you can lose it." I'll wait to the end of the month to be concerned. Doesn't really matter though if they can never figure out a way to beat the Cards.

If they can tread water and stay at or around .500 at the end of April, I think they're still in decent shape. The injuries, coupled with the brutal early schedule, may be too much to overcome though.

More worried about this than anything. Homer can't shake them.

It's to a point where you almost can't let him pitch against them. It's a guaranteed loss.

Sounds like some of you will be jumping off the bandwagon early this year and I am inviting you jumpers to hop on the Cards bandwagon. Time for some of you to leave the evil side and get with the good guys for a change. Things are always way better over here :thumb:

I must admit, however, that a bad day at the ballpark for a midweek afternoon game is a whole lot better than a great day at work. My work doesn't serve beer.

I'm not overreacting this early. It's a case of, "We are who they thought we were." I think they'll hover around .500 through the break.

I thought everyone saw this coming based on their lack of off season moves and what they lost from last season.

Clearly not, see the NL Central prediction thread.

Assuming they go something like 10-18 in April, which is what I'd predict with a gun to my head this morning, they are going to have work to do. In May they have more road games than home games, and that is with roadies at Boston, Washington (best staff in NL), LA and Arizona. They also have more roadies than home games in June.

Good news is July is overwhelmingly spent at home, so if they can be "in it" until then, they have a shot to go on a run.

Clearly not, see the NL Central prediction thread.

I had this to say back in February and I'm not exactly a baseball expert.

The Good, I think this team will get the same type of good season from Votto, Bruce will improve incrementally and Latos and Baily will be rock solid.

The Bad, Cueto's health is a huge question mark, you've got below average players at SS and LF. Average players at 3B, Catcher and with a declining Phillips at 2nd. Who knows what Hamilton will give this team if anything and the health of the bullpen has to be a major concern. If everything goes perfectly they still aren't as good as last year with the loss of Choo, I'm hopeful but there are too many question marks.

Give 'em until May 15th or so until you start panicking. A series sweep, winning 7 out of 10, etc, will put you back in it. Like someone said, about 40 games, 1/4 of the season is when to start worrying.

If the Reds aren't around .500 by the end of May I'll panic
