Understood and it may be how we determine this in our own minds. I make mine up by saying if all these players were with other teammates that were average or below. Who would help their team win more games? To me it is Hatton. I really don't think the other three mentioned would as well as he. Granted, they all will make their team better. I think CCH has better than average talent at all positions.

 

They are not 21-1 with one outstanding player, which Ruth is, and average talent.

 

Now if we all had a clear determination of what a POY is that we could agree on, then maybe it would be clearer, but I doubt it.

I'd say Ruthsatz. He has a consistent and strong senior season.

Can't knock Hatton's total body of work over his career. Doesn't have the teammates Ruthsatz has. Makes it easy to focus on stopping him (Hatton) only.

 

I like BOTH of them though. Let's see how it plays out.

Ruthsatz being a player of his grade ( non holdback) is hands down POY. The kid is ice cold with his confidence in his shot and ability to take over a game. Regardless of the so called flop move, he knows how to drive and how to beat you with his outside shot. Similar to Beatle but just A bit more consistant and effective. I like the the way the kid runs the court/team.

POY who has played all 4 years at the same school?

POY who has played all 4 years in Kentucky?

 

The list could go on and on.

I'd go with Ruthsatz right now as well as he has elevated Covcath to a level that honestly wasn't expected by many this year. He gets his teammates involved, scores, and is actually a pretty good defender.

 

I'd go with Bolden and Hatton 2/3 after that. It honestly depends on which team advances furthest. If Holmes gets back to state, it's going to be tough to not give it to Bolden as he is the most talented player in the region.

 

It will be tough to give it to a Newcath player because they are so talented all around. Any one of their players could be considered the leader and you wouldn't be wrong. McDonald obviously gets the hype (very deserving as well) but Tanner Moeves and Zack Pangallo have also played at an elite level at times throughout this season to lead the Breds. Jake Schulte has also had his moments and I believe the vocal aspect of his game really gets overlooked.

 

Any of the players above are deserving of the award with not much argument, but right now I think I'd go with Ruthsatz. Ask me in two or three weeks and that may change.

Not sure I agree. I think it's harder to stand out, however when I look at player of year it's more about point totals. There are many many things that don't make a stat line when considering POY.

I agree overall. The biggest matchup problem in the 9th IMO is McDonald. Great on the pick-and-pop. Getting really good inside. Strong stroke from outside. Really tough to match up with.

I struggle with picking one over the rest. I lean towards Ruthsatz and McDonald but that seems to change in my mind on a regular basis.

 

IMO there is no tougher player in the 9th (mentally and physically) than Nick Ruthsatz. That impresses me. Playing for your dad has plusses and minuses and he a)takes advantage of the plusses and b)ignores the negatives. That's not easy to do.

 

As I said, this year is really tough to make a call.

The one point that several on here are making that I find completely false is the comparison of the other talent at Dixie and CovCath. The supporting cast at Dixie consists of some very good players. Hatton is not a one man show. At times they play that style of ball to maximize that talents of Hatton, but I think Dixie has a very good group around him.

I agree with the notion that Drew should be in the discussion. He is a very talented ballplayer.

 

I get where you are going with the match-up issue. His talents present some of this issue, but so does the fact that he has running mates that are 6'7 and 6'6". Opponents have to pick their poison. He would get more love in these discussions if he had to carry more of the load.

The out of state games for CCH were tough too. No question NCC played a tough schedule and I think CCH would have had a few more losses against the Louisville teams, but you just never know.
