I think the award should be awarded before the post season starts because it should be an award that covers the season not the post season.

I get where you are coming from on that but cant we all agree that the Top 4 in the running have had fantastic years up to this point? Its not like you are going to give it to someone who may surprise folks in an end of the yr tourney.
