Marcus Smart shoves fan

Why hasn't Jeff Orr come out and told us what he said? I'm thinking because he knows he said something way out of bounds. He has to know what is being said about him nationwide. If I hadn't said something incredibly stupid I'd have cleared my name by now.

TTU fan reportedly set off #marcussmart with racial comment. Why do we expect a 19-yr-old to maintain composure, but not a middle aged man?

You think that's the first time someone's said something racial to a black player? Clearly no excuse for saying something like that but it's not like you see players going into the stands on people often. You have to keep your cool and walk away from the situation. He has way too much to lose.

He said it wasn't a racial slur but we've seen reports it was so who knows at this point.

If Jeff Orr got racial I'm pretty sure Ford will stand behind his player.

I don't think it was racial. If he did, other fans around him would have heard it and will chime in on this. But no matter, he cannot put his hands on fans. Yes, I realize he's 19 with a ton of adrenaline at that point but he has shown a past history this type behavior. If this kid wants to play at the next level, he'll hear worse on a nightly basis in the NBA or overseas. He can bark back or ignore, but you just cannot touch a fan in the stands.

:irked:Amazes me how a 50 year old man can heckle a 18-20 year at a sporting event and it seems like its excused. Player pushes him and people think he should be suspended the rest of the year? We as a society idolize athletes and make them into some super hero. It has even trickled down to high school, just look at the signing day on ESPNU. We have no idea what was going on in Smarts life? Maybe nothing, but after seeing a family bury their 3month old baby Saturday, I hope he wasn't going through anything like that. We are just way to quick to judge this kid, bring up his past and start throwing penalties out there. He should be punished but take all things into consideration and let his punishment fit the crime. To the fan I say this, try walking down the street and heckling people the way you do at sporting events. You wouldn't last an hour and if it was racial you wouldn't last a minute.:irked:

The majority of the posts on this one are about player penalties…I get that. I agree with I4C on this one: Why do fans think that they have a "right" to say whatever they want during a sporting event ? This is a societal standard that is one sided. Maybe Smart shouldn't have pushed they guy, likely not, but why aren't we talking about revoking Orr's season ticket status ? If he said what they are indicating, they guy should only be allowed to watch the games from the comfort of his home robe in his own hood.

I guarantee you it would be fun to watch you try that with everyone, that sounds like quality entertainment.

My point is that we all have a tipping point unless you're Gandhi.

Maybe Smart ain't dumb. Even if the fan didn't call him the N word, Smart May use it as an excuse for that. Play the race card to save yourself and justify his actions.

Smart should have whipped that whole row of idiots. And he could have easily.

This.

P.C tells me to say the expected sound good mumbo jumbo.

But, deep down I laugh b/c that sucker was scared to death...see him flinch up when Smart came up to him?

The age thing only gets brought up b/c he got pushed to the ground, but nobody is bringing up the age thing when he was running that mouth (I'd bet the house it was something racial and/or derogatory).

The one who was acting nuts was the woman beside him, all 5' of her .

They were both wrong. No doubt about that. In the end, we will only truly know one side of the story...what we saw.

but why aren't we talking about revoking Orr's season ticket status ? .

Because Jeff Orr isn't Marcus Smart.

Because Jeff Orr isn't a student athlete at a public university.

Because prior to tonight no one knew who Jeff Orr was.

Because Marcus Smart is the only one at this point that clearly crossed the line, at this point Jeff Orr's comments are speculation.

Because society will police Jeff Orr, opinion is irrelevant in the case of Jeff Orr. If he said what has been speculated no one doubts what the outcome for him will be.

Because it's much more intriguing to discuss the issue as it relates to Marcus Smart. Was he justified? Should he be suspended? If so, how long? All legitimate questions that allow room for differing opinions.

He said it wasn't a racial slur but we've seen reports it was so who knows at this point.

If it wasn't he should be holding a press conference right now issuing his denial. He's Texas Tech's #1 fan so they can host the press conference for him and stand behind him.

Easier said than done. I gave my kids the green light to handle racial situations however they see fit a long time ago.

Jeff Orr is older than Marcus Smart and should handle himself in that manner. So far Smart seems justified and shouldn't face more than a 3 game suspension.

And if I gave my kids the same authority we'd be where we where in the 60's. Racial slurs and comments go both ways... It's up to those of us the consider ourselves responsible to teach those less experienced in life how to handle situations appropriately.

Again, it's a black thing. You wouldn't understand.

Even if it wasn't he still looks like a fool. I doubt he's gonna hold a presser and say here's how immature I am and what I said to a kid.
