Question for you NKY folks

At least in the Mitchell case, the parents actually rented a place in Ft. Thomas. You could start a whole new thread on HHS transfers. Maile (Edgewood),Draud (Edgewood),Blasingame(Ludlow),Suedtkamp(Bellevue), Cowie (Newport), Hergott (FT.Mitchell) and that was just from my era.

One difference, they weren't transfers. They all started at HHS as freshman or earlier and paid tuition. And there were a lot more than that!!! Transfers are from high school to high school. How can you transfer from a school you weren't even attending?

RCC9 is correct in that they weren't "transfers" but Tark makes a valid point. It's not totally different, simply semantics. Not much of a difference in those kids moving from one school district to another, the only difference is they did it for their freshman year. Just sayin.

It is entertaining though to see some people defend their school while bashing another school for the same type of thing.

I can't believe I missed this thread yesterday lol.

RCC9, I'm not trying to knock the KHSAA, but you put tons of faith in them, which is ironic considering that you are basically bashing them for not fighting harder after they've been overruled by another entity.

Maybe, if "all the speculation were true and they came for a better life, education, and actually moved into the district" they are ineligible because other schools, many of whom have benefitted from transfers themselves, see the writing on the wall and know that little Corida is now going to reverse roles and beat them in basketball, which reigns supreme in so many communities despite miserable rankings in things like secondary education.

You seem to say that the fact that the KHSAA has ruled them ineligible initially tells you that something isn't right, jumping to the conclusion that it must mean that the KHSAA is able to deem them ineligible because, according to you, they've always been able to do so, but you don't say anything about why the KHSAA was overruled on that or why it's been their policy not to challenge things like this further once they've progressed past this point.

Do you really believe that the KHSAA proclaimed them ineligible because some other schools complained??? Do you know how many kids would be ineligible if the KHSAA made every kid ineligible that they got calls on? Do you think an entity as large as the KHSAA would take the risk of lawsuits if they didn't have some kind of reason behind it, other than some coaches complained. That's not even a good "what it".

And where did I bash them for not fighting hard enough? Confused? You took it to education and not fighting hard enough. Two things of which I haven't said. I think they do as much as they can control, but sometimes they are confined by their own rules...which are there for a good reason and legitimate reasons.

As far as them being right...I have no idea. I do know that if there weren't any issues, then the kids would already be eligible. Where there is smoke there is fire. I have no idea what's going on until the whole story plays out, but the fact that everyone can't understand why these kids were ineligible and seem to have done things by the book, yet the KHSAA still deems them ineligible, tells me something is up.

As for getting overturned by a different entity, that's common in theses cases. They lean on the side of the kids until it can be hashed out. I agree with that. Kids can't get their time back if they are truly legit. But the other thing that is pretty common is that most of these cases, once they are hashed out, hold up the ruling of the KHSAA. They just don't go looking for kids to make ineligible. You have to stand out.

You are right. The KHSAA won in his case too. They made the finals but the KHSAA won.

Might want to recheck that one.

Wrong. There is a huge difference. You can not transfer to another high school for athletics once you play a varsity sport, but prior to your freshman year you can choose whatever high school you want to attend based on any criteria you choose. One is a transfer and under KHSAA rules. The other is not.

Where does Sydney Moss fall in this discussion? Played for 3 schools in five years and Khsaa gave her a pass.

They were not transfers. They came to HHS as frosh did they not? You certainly have left off quite a few names didn't you?

I agree with this post.

In the end there really isn't a difference whether a kid moves 800 miles or 18 miles. They still are changing schools for the same reason.

People already know how i feel about the Cordia situation, but to try and make NCC transfers and Cordia transfers as totally different, well they aren't. Moving 800 miles or 18 miles....in the end the transfers probably happened because of athletics period.

I can agree with a lot of the thought process, however, the main difference is the kids that transferred to NCC had no problem gaining eligibility...at least the way I understood it. I didn't really keep up with that entire situation the way others may have, so I could be wrong. Why are these kids having issues...if it's so similar? Is the KHSAA just picking on these kids? Wouldn't there have to been some reason they are not deemed eligible? Something is smoking here. Has nothing to do with miles or education or who they really are. I don't care if they moved across the street...the KHSAA doesn't really get themselves so involved with a transfer that it takes a court injunction to allow them to play unless they are ready to stand by their ruling. It just doesn't happen. We have seen soooooo many kids transfer and get approved. It's really not that hard these days. Why are they not approving these transfers? They don't like NY? I mean they would not be going through all this if there wasn't some justification to at least take a deeper look. In the end, they may be tied by their own rules, but it still doesn't make it right.

I have said plenty of times, IF the kids are transferring here because of education, a better life or even if they just really like Rhodes and want to play for him and they did it the way all the other transfers happen in KY and follow the rules, I'm all for it and could really care less. But I would think that the KHSAA would be too. They are not there to harm kids. They are there to make sure there is not "fishy business" is going on. In these cases, they must think something fishy is going on. Why did they pick this situation to look into?

I would agree with this. I'm dumbfounded how that worked out, but I'm sure it was scrutinized and investigated to its extent. Apparently there was something that allowed it. Doesn't mean the KHSAA was happy about it, but probably couldn't control it because of the rules that are there for the good. Heck, she has now transferred from Florida back to Thomas Moore. So what did she learn. If you aren't completely happy with your situation, just move on. Leave. Go somewhere else. Life doesn't always provide those options for you.

His point is, they came from different school districts.

As I said earlier, it's all semantics but basically the same thing.

Went to Heritage up to 8th grade and even though she played varsity at Heritage, transfer rule only applies to high school years. So her playing at Ryle was not an issue. Then her parents filed the "right" paperwork with the KHSAA to be allowed to transfer/play at Boone Co.

Disagree with you here. If I choose to send my kids to another school before they play a varsity sport, they are not "TRANSFERS" This is the same foolish garbage I read on here about Ben Weyer going to middle school at Highlands and then to NCC as a frosh. Choice made, not a TRANSFER. The Moeves boys are a different story and honestly I see no reason there situation is any different than what is going on at Cordia. Moving 1 mile or 5 states, it is all the same in my book. Not sure why some get accepted and others do not.

I still do not understand how Sullivan was eligible a few years ago to play baseball at NCC nor how Sydney Moss was allowed to go from Ryle to Boone. These taking place several years after the Mike Mitchell debacle.

Speaking of injunctive relief, it seems like several years ago a girls basketball player was ejected from a game and got an injunction allowing her to play in a District or Regional game without having to sit out. Anyone remember that and who it was?

The KHSAA used the same logic for Sydney as they did for Jordan Nevels.

Special circumstances.

For the record, Bob Cowie lived in Ft Thomas from at least his Freshman year on. Daisy Lane product. Can't argue the rest other than Sudtkamp. He lived one house past the City limits. Went to Bellevue his Freshman year and sat out his Soph year becasue of transfer. You forgot about Jeff Kremer, he lived a couple houses outside the City Limits as well. All the others were legit transfers I guess. They all started HHS their Freshman years. Oh yeah, you also forgot about Steve & Barry Beagle. There are plenty more.......
