I am not sure if you want to classify as a transfer. I would say it was more of a trade, NCC got the Moeves brothers and Walton received coach Grant Brennan and players to be name later!

One difference, they weren't transfers. They all started at HHS as freshman or earlier and paid tuition. And there were a lot more than that!!! Transfers are from high school to high school. How can you transfer from a school you weren't even attending?

You are right. The KHSAA won in his case too. They made the finals but the KHSAA won.

Well, I'm sorry but I believe they simply wanted to play for Rhodes, a former college and NBA player, and also get away from a bad environment. They recruited him, not the other way around (although they will smartly not It to that due to KHSAA policies). And there's not one thing wrong with that. You seem to have a problem with the distance these young men traveled to get to Cordia, but IMO that is a non-issue. A transfer is still a transfer whether it is from 2 states away or 2 counties away.

I think Rhodes has his name out there in basketball circles, is a well known person due to his UK and NBA past, and these kids and their parents hear about him and contact him, not the other way around. They want a better, safer environment. Nothing wrong with that.

The team that defeated Cordia yesterday also had transfers, but you don't seem to have a problem with that because: 1. They didn't have as many as Cordia 2. They didn't move as many miles to their new school as the Cordia kids did (as if that is even relevant). If a kid moves in and helps make their new team better, and it's usually a move made for basketball purposes in most cases but not always, it could be for academics, what does it matter if they are 50 miles away or 500 miles? In both cases they're still transfers!

 

Southeast Kentucky is a nice place to live IMO. I know, I've lived there my entire life. Cordia is close to Hazard, a small city of about 5,000. They have access to nice restaurants, movies, super stores, and other conveniences. I hope these young are happy and content in their new surroundings and are enjoying their high school experience.

Obviously, from your post, you actually seem to agree with some on here, me included that there are things going on in Lotts Creek that go against what the KHSAA allows, this being "illegal". You just think the rules are bad and should be changed. Ok, that's one thing. But you are supposed to follow the rules if part of the organization...you can't ignore them, go against them and then flaunt your actions to that very same organization and not think repercussions are going to me meted out.

So why are you complaining about a kid like Oumar Keita at Cordia? He's an 8th grader who came from Mali. Didn't start high school at Cordia though. Don't call him a transfer if those other kids aren't.

I think you know as well as I do, high school basketball in a number of other states just isn't, for lack of a better word, as "big of a deal" in other states as it is in Kentucky.

 

Naming states on the whole, it's probably Indiana, North Carolina, Kentucky, then everyone else.

 

Naming some metro areas, it's New York, Chicago, DC, Philly, Memphis, and a few more (pardon the East Coast bias).

 

Living in Texas in a huge, huge city, I can tell you no one gives a crap about high school basketball. That's mostly true even in Houston and Dallas as well.

Nope, not at all. But the KHSAA isn't in the business of making kids ineligible if they are playing within the rules. If all the speculations are true and they came here for a better life, education and actually moved to the district, then why are they rules ineligible? If they were just like every other transfer, would they have to have sued to get eligible? I obviously don't know all the cases, but the ones I am familiar have all eventually lost because the KHSAA was able to justify why they were deemed ineligible. So the fact that they have been ineligible by KHSAA tells me something isn't right or they would already be playing.

 

RCC9, I'm not trying to knock the KHSAA, but you put tons of faith in them, which is ironic considering that you are basically bashing them for not fighting harder after they've been overruled by another entity.

 

Maybe, if "all the speculation were true and they came for a better life, education, and actually moved into the district" they are ineligible because other schools, many of whom have benefitted from transfers themselves, see the writing on the wall and know that little Corida is now going to reverse roles and beat them in basketball, which reigns supreme in so many communities despite miserable rankings in things like secondary education.

 

You seem to say that the fact that the KHSAA has ruled them ineligible initially tells you that something isn't right, jumping to the conclusion that it must mean that the KHSAA is able to deem them ineligible because, according to you, they've always been able to do so, but you don't say anything about why the KHSAA was overruled on that or why it's been their policy not to challenge things like this further once they've progressed past this point.

The answer is yes, but it doesn't matter any more, a lot of the good teams do. To be specific. The Moeves brothers played at Walton last year. Everything legal. McClendon for Holmes played at Holy Cross last year, Chames from Holmes played at HC two years ago. Everything legal. Much ado about nothing today IMO. All are contributors to their teams.

Just tossing this out. Could you imagine how good Walton would be this year with the McNeil brothers and Moeves Brothers still there?

 

They had a pretty darn good team before those kids left.

That would of been very entertaining and neither of the schools imo could point the finger at the other.

 

I would of made a huge batch of popcorn and sat back and enjoyed the show though.

But couldn't these players be transferring to Cordia for the same reasons a player might transfer to NCC, Scott Co., Bowling Green, etc? Does this make them legal? What makes them illegal? the distance they traveled? What if a kid that plays football in NYC transfers to Trinity for the same reasons one might transfer to NCC, Scott Co., Bowling Green. Does that change anything? What if its Fulton County?

In the end there really isn't a difference whether a kid moves 800 miles or 18 miles. They still are changing schools for the same reason.

 

People already know how i feel about the Cordia situation, but to try and make NCC transfers and Cordia transfers as totally different, well they aren't. Moving 800 miles or 18 miles....in the end the transfers probably happened because of athletics period.
