Just move it back to say the 10 yard line....

I would be fine with something like this as well. To get back to my basketball comparison, at least make it a FT attempt. Would you move it back to what ever the statistical equivalent of going for 2 would be?

After looking at some stats, I'd say move it back to the 18 yard line....That makes it a 35 yard attempt. Kickers had an 89% success rate from the 30-39 last season....I'd say that makes it just enough of a challenge.

I never have liked the PATS. Not since the Jim Plunkett years. I say get rid of em.

And statistically, 5 misses out of 1260 attempts is not at all significant.

Agree.

PAT's are beyond easy for NFL kickers. They can "miss" and still make an XP. Move it back.

Teams would do that already if they could. Having an XP attempt isn't the only thing keeping them from doing that.

Disagree.

Disagree.

Why would kicking it from the 3 keep them from doing it? They're still gonna need someone to kick field goals. If they could already find someone who can kick field goals and punt, it's clear that persons would also be able to kick XP's. If they could do it, they already would be. Eliminating the XP won't jump start that IMO.

I do not want the PAT moved back because I think teams should be rewarded for scoring TDs and not FGs. I would either make TDs worth 7 and eliminate the PAT or make TDs worth 7 and also allow a PAT from 28 yard line so it would be a 45 yard attempt. That way a team could score 8 points off a TD or 9 with a successful two point attempt.

That's how job elimination starts. You eliminate one part of the job responsibilities and then the dominoes start to fall. Next thing you know there isn't a need for that job.

When they change it, and add 6-8 more actual plays in a game instead of the chippy to add the point, players have 6-8 more chances to get hurt, and then player safety will come in to play and the first time a QB gets jacked up, Skip Dueless and Stephen Ahole will debate how the game was safer with place kicks for the point after.

What would be the point of this proposal?? It seems like all you'd be doing is adding points. Teams are rewarded for scoring touchdowns now---7 points instead of 3. It takes 3 field goals to outscore 1 touchdown now. By making a TD and XP worth 8, it still takes 3 field goals to outscore a touchdown.

And I'm saying that the XP is the easiest part of their job. If you eliminated field goals, yeah I could see them getting rid of kickers. But you are taking away something most punters could do already anyways. Most punters can not kick field goals as well as a FG kicker. If they could they would be punters/kickers already.

Yeah, but you're not really adding extra plays.....those plays still occur, just with different personnel. They don't argue with the no huddle now, which certainly adds more plays to the game.
