If extra points and kick offs are eliminated, then I could see an NFL reality where you have one kicker for kicking and punting. That roster spot likely wouldn't go away, but it would be fewer kicking jobs, potentially.

I'm a strong proponent of eliminating all place kickers.

It really wouldn't change much other than to speed up the game. This rule only makes the choice to go for 1 an automatic point. If you choose to go for two, the consequences are the same as they are currently (either 0 or 2)

Didn't say they are perfect and even before yesterday's debacle that rule was slated to be reviewed this offseason. They tweak instant replay rules every season.

I think they should make them go for 2 every time. In the Eagles/Lions game this year they had to go for 2 because they couldn't kick in the snowstorm and it was awesome.

When I first read the thread title I literally perplexingly thought it was about the NFL eliminating the New England Patriots, and although that really didn't seem to make much sense, I was all for it. Is that open for discussion too?

Teams would do that already if they could. Having an XP attempt isn't the only thing keeping them from doing that.

Discussed on Mike & Mike this morning - I literally laughed out loud at one guy's idea to make the player who scored the TD attempt the PAT. Can you imagine? An O lineman scoops up that fumbled snap and lumbers in from the 3 yard line then has to kick a 37 yarder through the uprights? A safety makes a beautiful pick 6 only to humiliate himself line driving one wide left? Would almost eliminate QB sneaks for me - no way is my QB getting exposed like that for 1 point.

Agreed. With the changes to the Pro Bowl, I think we're seeing the end days of punts and kickoff. Thel league thinks doing so would reduce injuries by eliminating a lot of the high speed collisions.

Kicking I can see going away. Punting does provide a way to change possession so I am fine keeping it. At least Punters have to make an athletic type play and strategy is involved. A kicker may not see the field for a single play, teams are deadlocked in a battle, and then some little non-athletic guy comes in to attempt a 55 yard FG with 2 seconds left and the game's fate is with this guy. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8898684/bayless-let-get-rid-field-goals-nfl
