2006 KY Allstar Roster

Featured Replies

In my extremely brief career in coaching, I have already seen how politics can over-ride common sense...I think this may be the case with Sauerbeck, Blume and Senn...I hate the fact that there will always be great players left off of teams like these, but the sad truth is that every year this will happen...All 3 of these guys should know in their hearts that they played GREAT football this past year, and they have nothing to be ashamed of...Stand tall guys! :thumb:

I have a question that some of you who have been involved may be able to answer. I believe this is the list that was voted on by the coaches. Is this the final roster or does the head coach have the option of adding other players?

The head coach and his staff have the option to add other players as needed to the roster after it is voted on by the coaches throughout the state. However, a kid must be nominated by a coach to be on the ballot to be voted on. I know of cases in the past when kids were overlooked because they were not on the ballot which means their HS coach did not recommend them or just failed to send in his nominations.

Last year, the Ky All Star team needed an additional center after the initial roster was already selected. The coaches looked at tapes and various high school coaches' recommendations, then chose Chris Collins from North Laurel as the #2 center from the group they looked at for that spot. This happens with other players as well, often times based on need.

I almost hate reading posts about things like this because it always turns into homers talking about how their favorite player isn't on the team. And how a kid from their school deserve it more then anyone else and how the it is all politics. How do you guys think that makes the kids that did make the list feel.

Maybe he is planning on getting an early start on his classes and is enrolling in summer school, also, alot of schools like for their football players to get on campus early and start working out together, get to know each other and develop a sense of "family". I would be willing to bet that the majority of the kids selected to the all-star team will leave home and head for their respective schools right after the all-star game. OR, maybe his coach(es) at NC State prefer that he not play and risk injury. Most of these kids get permission to play from their college coach.

Here's the thing. Most kids will still be in high school when the first summer session at almost any college will start. I believe this game is supposed to take place before the second session would start. It doesnt make sense to me why Burke cant play b/c of school. I know Fidler is already at UK, but dont get it with Burke unless he is leaving high school early.

Many players now, who have performed well in their high school academics, have enough credits to graduate from high school at the end of the 1st semester of their senior year. By doing this, they are able to enroll in college classes at the beginning of the 2nd semester. This serves a dual purpose. First it allows them to participate in spring practice at their college, which gives them a better chance to play in the following fall. Second, by accumulating credits in the spring, they can take less hours in the fall during their strenous season.

Stewart, Aldridge, and West are three new signees at Notre Dame, and I know they have done this. Chris Burke was a very intelligent young man who also may have elected to do this. If so, in essence, he is now a college student and no longer eligible for high school participation.

I'm not dumb. Did you read that I knew that Fidler was already at UK. I know that he did what you described to me as though I were a third grader. To my knowledge Burke did not do the same. He is still at LC to my knowledge. You told me nothing I didnt already know. Thanks.

Touchy..touchy...touchy...had a bad day? There was no intent in my response to demean your intellect. I was merely trying to present a potential senario which occurs elsewhere. Try a seditive and have a nice day.

I think that you can say the same thing about any list that comes out, the AP All-state team, the CJ All-state teams, the BGP team, some of the guys that are on this roster did not make one, two or all three of these mentioned lists........does that make them not worthy of being on this team or vice versa? Politics played a role in each of these forementioned lists. I think that the coaches have the better judgement/knowledge than do sports writers, editors, etc. (and some of us ). and there are only so many roster spots, they select the players for each position that THEY think can best compete with and TROUNCE the Tenn. all-stars and it is their team. The best that we can do is support the team that represents the state of KY.

LC will end its school year by May 20. NC State's First Summer Session starts after that, and before the KY TN All Star Game. What's wrong with a young man getting started when he feels is the right time?

Having been diligently tutored at the TD School of Charm for years, what else should one expect? :fight:

Justin Burke is leaving 2 days after he graduates high school. He is focusing all his attention on N.C. State, and he wants to get an early start not only on the football but the academics as well.

The state is broken up into 4 parts and each section has 2 players that are voted on by coaches. Then there are the two QB's that are voted on by the coaches. That mean that 10 players overall are voted on. The rest are selected by the head coach and the KHSCA committee. This IMO is why Ketucky has been beating UT recently, the coaches get the best players and it is not political, the coaches and committee (which are mostly ex-coaches). want to win so they select the best intheir opinion.

Someone please tell me how Guidigli is in at LB over Matt. Matt led NKY in tackles two years in a row and is Nky 4A player of the year. I think I know why but I want to hear from others.

Fair question.
