Honestly, the better team won. Highlands has a Championship offense, but, an average, at best, defense. Collins had the better athletes, more team speed and more playmakers. Mueller made the comment that his RB was the best in the state, but, if that's the case, our state is really weak in RBs. The kid is hard nosed and plays hard and is a good, solid HS player, but, in no way shape or form is he even close to one of the best RBs. Not enough speed and no shiftiness and for the most part, went down on 1st contact. I was very impressed with the Highlands WR corp, though, as they had 5 or 6 guys who are game breakers and all of them have glue for hands.

 

Harris has been playing hurt for the last 4-5 weeks. His speed and quickness took a hit with his injury. He is as tough as they come. He is playing when most would have been on the sidelines. Trust me, the kid is good. Very good. And I would put him up against any runner in the state. Don't judge him on this game. Playing at about 70%. If that. It's not an excuse. I'm not an excuse guy. It's the truth.

Let me make this clear Highlands before you talk smack about SK ever again! The Pioneers beat Collins!!! Great job Collins I knew you could do it!!!!

Congratulations to Collins. Collins just beat the best team in the state of Kentucky tonight. The Birds have nothing to hang their heads about.

Sorry Charlie, no way highlands is the best team in the state and Collins proved that tonight.

 

No team in the Commonwealth could sustain the level the Birds have played over the years and especially this year. They are Champions in my eyes. No matter what the score read tonight. Go Birds! They'll be back for sure.

Tip your cap to the great run that was just ended. Highlands had never lost a state title under the 6 class system, an incredible feat of 6 straight titles. You know they'll be back next year, though I guess maybe we shouldn't just assume the victory like most of us did.

 

And of course, tip your cap to Collins. What a difference a year makes, eh?

I don't think anyone was saying anything about Harris hurting HHS today. He played great. What hurt HHS was the inability to stop the pass. It was the weak link all season and had been talked about a lot this season. HHS offense was as good as it's been all year today. They scored when they needed to and came back to take the lead when down 9 late in the game.

And many people have recognized their awesome run. They never have to hang their heads. That doesn't mean you need to diminish what Collins did today.

Interesting that Trinity and St. X couldn't stop the pass either this year.

Collins wanted it and HHS seemed flat at times. Congrats Collins on a great win. Ukfan, we win with class and we will lose with class. Nothing you can say to take that away. I think I was bad luck for HHS and NCC. Lost composure at the end with that unsportsmanlike penalty. I'll take watching our team lose at state any day over not getting there EVER! GO BIRDS! 23 in 14!
