I realize no one from CCH wants to admit it, CCH should never be in a position where they claim a moral victory in their class, some CCH fans will think I am just stirring the pot, etc. but at the end of the day I do believe it is a moral victory for CCH.

Only one game a year matters at CCH and that's the playoff game against HHS. Need a coach that can take them down. What is Wirth's record against HHS?

Now you are stirring the "POT" Dale is a great guy and a great coach(BEST IMO)...but... There are so many other factors making HHS what it is today. I believe we can all agree HHS won many titles and competed for others BD(Before Dale).

If I were a CovCath fan, I would say nothing short of beating HHS is a moral victory. I would say that if they beat HHS but maybe didn't win state, that could be a moral victory. I've just never bought into those hollow victories. I feel just as crappy after seeing us losing in a "moral victory" than I do seeing us losing in just a loss. Was it a moral victory to only lose by a few to Elder? Hecky no! Colonels definitely brought it last night. That was a much more aggressive team than we saw in the regular season. I liked the used of Dressman as a running back. That kid can flat out fly. He is going to create a lot of excitement in the next two years.

I have to agree with RomanEmpire. how can you look at it as a moral victory? He brought up a perfect comparison. Ohio State and Michigan. Doesn't matter what the team does against every other team they face, when they can't beat HHS what does it matter?

I don't think any senior on CCH's team is thinking of last nights game as a moral victory.

I am in the same thinking with Romanempire, Cov Cath has no excuse for not putting out great football. They can draw from many Catholic/public schools in the area and it is evident in their other programs like baseball and basketball. The football program needs to mirror what the Highlands program does if they want to compete. Talent for talent I think CovCath is right there but when it comes to development of players then I think Highlands does a much better job.

 

If you look at some of the kids that have stepped up and stepped in when players get injured, it just shows you how good some of those players are waiting in the wings. Or its shows you how good a kid who may not have seen the field as a Frosh has developed into a roving monster on the defensive side of the ball. That right there is not just kids buying into the program and busting their butts, it is coaching !!!

 

Moral victory? Yea but I guarantee those boys and coaches didnt wake up this morning with a smile on their face.

Meh...depends on if CovCath fires for performance. At the very least, they need to revamp their offensive philosophy. 3 out of the past 4 games CovCath has had great success running it right at Highlands. 3 out of the past 4 years, CC has refused to stick to that and have gotten so very cute. Lots of screens, very little stretching the field. So, if H has a soft spot, it is running at the 3 man spot, why do you not continue that and force them to adjust? You don't run with success, and then play to Highlands success by throwing some screen pass into Highlands strength which is speed in pursuit. Why do they do that? I know the CC fans I stood next too couldn't believe it. They also couldn't believe the punt in the 4th quarter where they were down by 3 scores. I'm not a CC fan, so I don't care what they do. I hate to see anyone lose their job, especially a coach in high school for wins and losses. I just don't think that Wirth endeared himself to everyone tonight. It felt like he conceded the game w/ a quarter of it to go.

They're human. Trust me - inside they're a)disappointed they lost and their season is over and b)happy with the way they battled ie moral victory.

 

To adults they'll pay lip service to " no moral victories."

There's no doubt that the decision to punt with 9:00 to go and down by three scores is one that will bother Coach Wirth all winter, and one most likely he'll learn from. Justified or not, it gave everyone at DCM the vibe he was conceding.

In the playoffs, I don't think there are moral victories. Your season's over at that point.
