Was tonight a moral victory for CovCath?

Featured Replies

Good points all around. I think Wirth's job is secure. I think the feeder program is netting some results. As to would they play if they weren't in the same district? I say yes, but with some doubt. The Freshman played and beat Highlands this year. The varsity lost twice. But then wasn't there an issue on here I read about with regards to the jv game?

Good Lord, don't bring that up again!

Not 100% sure but I think cch jv accepted the HHS forfeit honorable and quietly.

I could be wrong though.

Mueller has to be the best high school football coach in the state. His record speaks for itself. CCH represented themselves well last night, but no moral victory. If you ask their kids they would also probably say no. I'm sure they thought they would win.

Just 4 short yrs ago he was National Coach of the Year...:thumb:

Enough said

Those are the moral victories people are talking about I guess.

Sometimes I think people forget that these are still kids who are being talked about and believe it or not a lot of them read these posts. Congrats to CCH on a great season and good luck to Highlands the rest of the way.

Oh please. Stop With the over dramatic we are above everyone else garbage because you play HHS every year. YOU HAVE TO!! They are in your district!!!!!

Trust me, before putting every other school in the area down because they won't play them, you first have to convince me that CCH would play HHS if they didn't have to. I say they wouldn't. Time to get off your ivory tower and point fingers elsewhere while you act like CCH is going above and beyond by playing a team they have to play in the first place. So please stop calling all the other teams gutless wonders when CCH would be one of those gutless wonders you talk about if they had a choice to. So keep playing 1A teams out of district play and call everyone else gutless.

We do not know if Cov. Cath. would play Highlands or not (based upon the "with a spirit that will not play" - I have my doubts). We for sure do know lots of other teams who won't play Highlands. :)

Covington Catholic did not have a moral victory. They played a good football game and played it hard. Down 28-6 in the 4th he made a sound coaching decision to punt on 4th down and not have Highlands march down and score again with a short field. In the end the 28-13 final was very respectable. I've seen a lot of games over the years and none get my gut churning more than against CCH because they always stir fear in the gut because of how hard they play. It has been a down cycle but no way would they claim this as a moral victory. Look at the way Dale pulled on the reins and went to running the ball in the 4th quarter to shorten the time CCH might have the ball. It was a good move that shows his respect for the CCH program. See you again Colonels in 2014!

Meh...depends on if CovCath fires for performance. At the very least, they need to revamp their offensive philosophy. 3 out of the past 4 games CovCath has had great success running it right at Highlands. 3 out of the past 4 years, CC has refused to stick to that and have gotten so very cute. Lots of screens, very little stretching the field. So, if H has a soft spot, it is running at the 3 man spot, why do you not continue that and force them to adjust? You don't run with success, and then play to Highlands success by throwing some screen pass into Highlands strength which is speed in pursuit. Why do they do that? I know the CC fans I stood next too couldn't believe it. They also couldn't believe the punt in the 4th quarter where they were down by 3 scores. I'm not a CC fan, so I don't care what they do. I hate to see anyone lose their job, especially a coach in high school for wins and losses. I just don't think that Wirth endeared himself to everyone tonight. It felt like he conceded the game w/ a quarter of it to go.

You know its funny that all you here is you need to run the ball right at Highlands 3 man front to beat them. If it was that easy everybody would be doing it. Its not that easy unless you are Elder or Trinity and even those teams have a hard time doing it. It seems like the logical thing to do and it works in spurts but you know they will make ajustments. Look i thought CCH played about as well as they could play considering....the bottom line is that Highlands is just a better football team. That is not a cocky statement ..it is what it is. The bottom line is the way Highlands has things going.. unless your in the GCL or the super district in the Ville...you better bring your A plus game and hope for help from the birds if you want to beat them. Just being honest.

Sometimes it feels as if CCH gets that free pass and have walked around as if they are automaticaally #2 in the area behind HHS. Then I read a post calling everyone else gutless wonders bbecause they don't play Highlands while CCH does as if CCH has a choice in the matter, which they don't.

Thats all I could read so if he aopologized later in his post for sounding arrogant then I didn't get that far, but that is all I could read before responding.

Look Hellbird im not a CCH fan but to there defense you dont know if they wouldnt play HHS for sure but one thing we do know for sure is all the others in NKY dont. Also why would they play Moeller? Nobody else plays a GCL school in NKY but Highlands. I think your argument about them not playing Highlands is way off base because if your willing to play Moeller why would you not play Highlands.

I'm a NewCath guy. My boys are Highlands' fans. I don' care what CC does. I, as a football fan, didn't get the philosophy.

I didn't say that that was all that you had to do. I said that when you are averaging over 5 yards a carry, you force Highlands to change their game plan. That opens up you ability to stretch the field w/ play action, much like Elder did. Elder didn't run for a million yards. Outside of the QBs TD run on the read-option, they were under 100. What they did do was cause Highlands safeties to sell out to support on the run and simple play action passing into trips was very, very successful. CovCath didn't try that. They passed themselves off schedule by throwing screens when it was obvious that Highlands had game planned for exactly that. When they ran the read-option in the first half, they had a TON of success. Once they went down by 2 scores at the end of the half, they went into an offensive shell.

Just for the record with the moral victory by Cov. Cath. last Friday over the Birds, Cov. Cath starts a new moral victory win streak having had their previous 2 game moral victory win streak, that they had coming into the season, snappend in September. Cov. Cath. will look to extend their moral victory win streak next September against the Birds.

NO way. If you are CCH, you should be ashamed of having any connection to that term. They have many advantages over many public schools and should not be getting dominated by HHS.

I agree. CC is a great program and far from the so called moral victories. I guarantee those kids went into the game expecting to win, not just play close. I can only imagine the negative feedback on here if the same question was asked of Highlands fans after a loss. They'd go off the deep end. The term "moral victory" doesn't apply to either program.

Agreed...The question though is CovCath not Highlands...Highlands has a game tomorrow nite...Just sayin

Highlands is having practice right now...:thumb:

Was the Elder loss a moral victory for Highlands since they played fairly close with them?
