50 States, 50 Pizzas

Big fan of this, Uno's had a "great" deep dish pizza.

Not a fan of pizza on "a piece of cardboard", but I'll take your word it's better than it sounds.

Same here, I love pizza so thick one slice fills you up.

When we traveled to Myrtle Beach two years ago I went the long way just for the sake of trying Pies and Pint (Fayetteville, WV) and it was excellent. I've also seen Maryland's Joe Squared on the Food Network and it looks phenomenal.

I'm not a big fan of Chicago deep dish pizza, much prefer New York style pizza.

Last time I was in St. Louis I took the family to Dewey's Pizza. It was really good. I guess it is a very small chain as they had about 4 locations in St. Louis, but also have some locations in Cincinnati, and a few other Ohio cities. Great beer selection as well.

Turoni's pizza in Evansville, IN is really good as well. It only comes on thin crust however, so it may not appeal to everyone.

Uno's is still around, albeit it has changed. I still like there pie, but it's not the same as the Clifton location used to provide way back when. I think Uno's got it's start in Chicago.

Big fan of Chicago style pizza, but I've had New York style that was really good as well. Somewhat of a pizza snob I guess, as I have no use for Snappy, Papa's, Domino's etc., but once you get away from the national chains, I think it's kind of hard to mess up a pizza.

Joe Bolonga's (sp) in Lexington is really good, and close enough to Rupp that I can get there a couple times a year.

Cassono's in the Dayton area is very good as well, though it is thin crust.

As a native of Cincinnati, I find it hard to believe LaRosa's doesn't stack up well with others. I think LaRosa's is really good.

I've had Imprezzilli's once, but it wasn't the kind that they have highlighted in the article. Either way, I was very impressed.

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought it was a promo for Fat Jason & The Timberlakes upcoming U.S. concert tour.

It is now. The 50 Pizzas and 50 Beers in 50 States tour kicks off in March after the Sweet 16.

Is this the French Restaurant who's name sounds like women's undergarments?

Rockmom will know what I am talking about, she had a good laugh at me.

One and the same

Soooo not digging the winner for Ohio....Eggs sunny side up ain't goin' on my pie.

I think they were a knock off from the pizzeria Uno from Chicago. The pies in Chicago are huge. We once placed an order 1.5 hours ahead of time as it was so crowded we could not even get in the building. We all stood outside drinking beers. By the time the pizza was ready we were all hammered. Not a fan of the thick crust. I always try to find a slice of NY thin pizza from some dump while in NY. Love that huge slice that you fold in half to eat.

I've much enjoyed the brick oven type pizza served at either Strong's in Newport, or Pomodori's in Clifton. I'm getting further and further away from enjoying pizza that is too doughy, as that tends to make me sluggish, and take me to heartburn city. Nothing like waking in the middle of the night with that.

The current trend of having breadsticks dipped in pizza sauce before having your main course of pizza, and then having iced cinnamon bread or a giant cookie afterwards is beyond me. Who are chains targeting with that temptation? In today's world with the upswing in attempts of restricting such unhealthy options, I've got to believe those type pizza joints are high on the list when holding advertisers accountable for presenting food trends that are downright heart attacks waiting to happen. Of course personal responsibility needs to be at play regardless of what we're being swayed to think is the typical protocol for an evening out at the pizza parlor.

I've been to Chitown many times over the past years for work, and have to say I enjoy the Chicago style pizza once in a while. Giordano's and Lou Malnati's, though there are some other good ones as well. I have never been to NY, but I also enjoy a good slice of NY style pizza. Buddy's Pizza in Frankfort makes a good NY style pie. Have to eat it there, hot out of the oven though, it's not the sort of pizza that reheats very well the next day.
