I think if someone wants to take a shot at BG not scheduling Trinity this year (as it has been claimed Trinity tried to schedule them), that is one thing. But at this point, the ship has sailed. Schools sign two year contracts, and to schedule this game now would mean that Bowling Green would have to back out of a contract with another opponent next year so Trinity can get their shot. I think that is an irrational and silly request, yes.

 

If BG were to finish this year undefeated (and as has been mentioned, Blackman will be an incredibly tough opponent and may make all this moot), BG will have a 44 game win streak after this year. Six games to tie, seven to break it. BG has a game scheduled every week during that span, and Trinity has one as well every week but week 4 (what would be BG's 49th win). BG plays McCallie School that week. So Trinity would either be asking them to break their contract with them (and therein give up the home return since BG already went to Chattanooga), or else Trinity would be breaking a contract of their own in addition to having BG break one of theirs.

 

My humble suggestion? Trinity needs to try to talk to Lexington Catholic about replacing whoever BG's bowl opponent would be next year. That's the only scenario this would work.

Whether it is right or wrong was not my point, I was addressing another poster who was knocking Trinity fans for hoping for a matchup basically me saying everyone would want that if it was their team who's record was being challenged.

 

Let's look at it from a college level. If Alabama had not lost to A&M last year and had not let Auburn come back a few years ago and won the SEC and their BSC Bowl game. As they would be getting close to Oklahoma's winning streak, does anyone not think Oklahoma would not have been wanting a game just to defend their record? Heck, wouldn't the sports media be making a frenzy about the such a game?

 

From a basketball standpoint, if Cal were to line up enough amazing teams to approach UCLA's record (it is UCLA correct?), wouldn't both UCLA and the sports world overall be clamoring for a game?

I wasn't knocking T fans for hoping a matchup could happen. I hope a matchup can be worked out but that isn't why this thread was started and not what I'm knocking anyone for.

 

That said let me ask you this. What if T and BG had played this year and BG won? Is that enough or does it have to be next year when everyone fully expects BG to be down compared to this years team.

The Record Prior to Trinity was Paris from '81 to '83. I think they won a couple of state titles in that string. Trinity record was set from '88 to '91.

 

A question I have is a look at the 42 straight. Was there an outcry to play Breathitt or Danville at that time?

 

Also, if Danville doesn't lose that one point heartbreaker in OT of the '93 state semi-finals, the Ads would very likely hold the record at somewhere close to 60.

Obviously the later in beating the prior team's streak it occurs the more exciting it is but to be able to make that claim whether it is the first game of the streak or the game that takes the lead is something you can really hang your hat on about.

I have no idea, Trinity's streak (between 88 and 91) I was finishing up grade school (7th and 8th grade) at St. Martha and my Freshman and Sophmore years at Trinity. I did not know Trinity AD (Harry Jansen) nor Dennis Lampley well enough to have the conversation.

 

What was Paris like during the 88 to 91 period? I don't recall if they were a power in their class or not. If Paris was not very strong during that time frame and would not be able to really put up a defense of their streak, my guess is no one even gave much thought about it, probably not even the Paris fan base. If Paris was not particularily good at that time, some may say it would be in bad taste to schedule the game because it could look like you are kicking dirt on them while beating their record.

I think RockPride was just trying to rile people up, and I think he succeeded. IMO Trinity has no right to demand a game from Bowling Green.

Particularly if you realize one was one of the largest male enrollments in the state and the other was a Class A school. :thumb:

I have no dog in this fight. I could care less if BG beats the streak. They are a good team. What disappoints me is the fact that they have been competitive against T the last years they played and I wanted those games to continue. It 's not fun to beat up on teams who aren't competitive and I don't want to watch those games. And it has been hard for T to find competitive games in KY. G' Luck to BG.
