Do we not have a right to try and defend it? Also, I believe I have a right to question it's merit, if they refuse to play us, in the early goings on of the '14 football season. Particularly, since we tried to schedule them that last 2-3 seasons.

Ehhh, I wouldn't go that far, I don't think BG necessarily "owes" Trinity the game but I think many would say that giving the current record holder the opportunity to defend its record is an honorable thing to do (please don't interpret this to mean if BG does not play T I feel they lack honor) and would also give their steak much more strength so to speak.

 

Saying that, in the late 80's/early 90's, did Trinity offer to play the previous record holder who I believe was Paris per this thread? (For some reason I was thinking it was Highlands?????) I don't know if Trinity did. How long ago did Paris set their streak? At the time Trinity set their streak, was Paris at a strong point in their program and would put up a strong challenge or would they have been highly over matched so many would not even feel a defense of their streak was justified? While Trinity is down from the last three years, I think anybody would agree they are still strong enough to give BG a great game and maybe even defeat BG.

 

Saying all that, if BG does surpass Trinity without playing Trinity, are my going to bad mouth BG? No. Will I often wonder, what a great game it would be if they did play and how much would be on this game? Yes.

The entire point of this thread makes me laugh. It reeks of desperation. I guess it's damage control just in case BG does break the record the almighty Rocks can place an * on BG's streak and still lay claim to the record.

First of all, what are the details on the streak? Is it regular season games or all games including playoffs?

 

I think Bowling Green is playing tough opponents and because of that the streak does deserve the recognition it gets if they break the record. I agree with Bert above. I don't think Trinity is owed the chance to defend but it would be honorable and pretty cool if they could make that game happen.

 

At the end of the day, is it that big a deal? Yes, it would be nice to hold the record but it isn't that big a deal IMO. I remember when Highlands was on a winning streak 3 or 4 years ago and they were nearing some consecutive game record Beechwood holds in N. Ky. I can't even recall what the record is. Anyway, Highlands was getting close to the Beechwood record when Ryle upset them (2010?). Yes, I was glad Ryle upset them and stopped the streak. But as I said above, I can't even remember what the streak is so it is no big deal IMO.

We're getting dangerously close to where BG has the opportunity to break our win streak. I know that we plan to try to schedule a game with them before said win streak is broken....I'm hearing it won't happen....what say you?

If BG does get the new record and years down the road a school from a smaller class starts to just own that class, racking up undefeated seasons, has some nice wins outside of their class but never against BG, if they get close to BG's record, you honestly don't think BG fans will not be clamoring for a chance to defend their record also?

Very possible this year. However, it is not like there have not been times when Highlands didn't lead T in the state title race so I really don't see too many people jumping off bridges over that. We will just have to keep an eye on Rockmom. She may try to OD on coffee or something.

The Record Prior to Trinity was Paris from '81 to '83. I think they won a couple of state titles in that string. Trinity record was set from '88 to '91.

 

A question I have is a look at the 42 straight. Was there an outcry to play Breathitt or Danville at that time?

 

Also, if Danville doesn't lose that one point heartbreaker in OT of the '93 state semi-finals, the Ads would very likely hold the record at somewhere close to 60.

Let's look at it from a college level. If Alabama had not lost to A&M last year and had not let Auburn come back a few years ago and won the SEC and their BSC Bowl game. As they would be getting close to Oklahoma's winning streak, does anyone not think Oklahoma would not have been wanting a game just to defend their record? Heck, wouldn't the sports media be making a frenzy about the such a game?

 

From a basketball standpoint, if Cal were to line up enough amazing teams to approach UCLA's record (it is UCLA correct?), wouldn't both UCLA and the sports world overall be clamoring for a game?

To be honest, I agree with you that it is the "natural reaction."

 

But there are some who seem to imply that unless the challenge is accepted, somehow another team's streak is "less" than the Trinity streak.

 

I don't think OU or UCLA would react with that implication.

 

If we take it another step, I didn't see any Boyle County fans implying that somehow Highland's new streak of 6 Straight titles was not legit because it wasn't set in a 4 Class System but was won in a diluted 6 Class System.
