October 5, 201312 yr I know that Votto is in the early part of his contract, but I think he needs to show a lot more considering the paycheck he's getting. He needs to hit the ball a lot more than what he did over the season for that kind of pay; jmo. All the walks do not mean much of anything, unless you have wheels like Billy Hamilton. Sure he needs to hit the ball a bit better but he was still a .300 hitter this season and he has enough plate discipline to not chase after bad pitches hence his high amount of walks. I'd be more mad at him if he actually was swinging at those bad pitches. He still is one of the best hitters in the game and pitchers and opposing teams recognize that.

No one is capable of living up to a decade long quarter of a billion dollar commitment on the field, so they have to bring the intangibles as well. Unfortunately that isn't in Votto's personality...

October 5, 201312 yr He's a 9-1 hitter. When the Reds are up 9-1 he kills the ball. Bring him up with RISP down 3-2 in any inning and he's a can of corn or a strikeout. He made me so mad so many times this season. He had a rough year but the stats say other wise throughout his career.

October 6, 201312 yr Votto had a solid year, but has mentioned he wasn't used in the best way it would seem. Maybe the way he was used led to the lack of productivity that most of us would like to have seen improved. Could be part of the reason "The Toothpick" is gone.

I realize they pitch around him because of the hitters before and after him which is why he walks so much. Just a prime example of why the Reds have to go after some big time help. If not he's going to continue to be a quarter billion dollar league leader in walks for an awfully long time.

And now, just stop for a second and think about that.................. ......what hitter in the history of the game in the 2 hole deserves that kind of money? Ummmm, no one!!!! I could see a solid 3hole/4hole guy like Pujols in his prime. Or A-Roid or Jr in their primes. But Votto ain't them, and he ain't worth the caish.
