Drew Barker tops the list for me but after Barker what players are serious contenders for Mr. Football? Why?

Drew "Dbob" Houilston has to be a contender as well imo.

 

Playing in a powerhouse program surrounded with very good football players tends to discount his numbers.

 

I do not have his numbers but they will rival any QB in the state including the kid from Conner. I will need some help here from a Highlands stats guy to prove it.

 

And before anyone says if Barker was at Highlands could you imagine what his numbers would be all I can say to that is probably not better than they are now just because Dale spreads the wealth which pentalizes a kid in the end for such individual awards.

 

Its not on purpose but rather the nature of the beast. Just ask Justin Frisk who had 46 Tds his Sr yr and that was only playing halves of games.

 

Unless you are a 5 Star recruit at a school like T, H or X you will not get many sniffs at this award.

Usually goes to a gaddy number kind of guy.

 

Almost like voters send a message that you can't win all the time and get a Mr Football winner too...Just sayin

 

The most impressive thing about Houilston is he does it every wk, not just some wks and he leads his team to wins.:thumb:

I have to agree with Houliston. Drew is the leading candidate IMO but how can you ignore the ridiculous numbers the HHS QB is putting up?

I would say on stats alone, walker would be in the conversation. But I don't think he receives enough pub to receive the award. Being a rb at a school that has a mr. Football rb recipient in its school history doesn't hurt though.

Barker is the best QB in the state but isn't in the best offensive system in the state.

Houliston is definitely making a name for himself but this award primarily comes down to politics.

While numbers put him in the conversation, I think being a first year starter is too much for Houliston to overcome. I think it's still, and will remain, barker then Fant.

Don't know if its politics or simply name recognition.

It's between Barker and Fant at this point and anyone who believes otherwise has their head in the sand.

 

 

Let's be real.....Fant will get the WKY vote, Barker will get the the NKY vote...what happens in between remains to be seen. What happens that first week of December will go a long way to determine the winner. If Fant is there and Barker isn't.......then it is what it is. In my mind it is between those two.

 

There will be multiple voters who wait until that first weekend in December to cast a vote.

I said on here months before the season began that Houliston was a better QUARTERBACK than Towles or McCoy and people thought I was nuts. Having now seen both play, and a half season under the belt I will add that Houliston is a better quarterback than Barker. Barker is the better prospect based on size and potential.

 

I think Fant wins Mr. football because a lot of people whom may have voted for Barker will have trouble voting for a guy who is not the best at his position............even if he is going to UK.

 

For the record Houliston now has over 1850 passing yards, 24 TD passes, and a 71% completion percentage. Only one pick on the season.
