I would do it had I had a kid on the other team or if my son was on the team that did such unsportmanslike conduct. Do I want my kid to act like that and be like that? NO

 

This is in effect the same as bullying and degrading the other team.

Yep I am from Eastern Kentucky and if they pulled this crap, I'd post the same thing about them. I gave up that high school rivalry stuff about 15-16 years ago.

 

If I posted anything about basketball it was because I seen it that way. If my son was on the JC team, I would've had a chat with the coach after the game.

 

Let's hear your view...was this play the way you want JC football represented?

This is an excellent question. I'm not sure I would. I have had kids on multiple teams playing for multiple people and me speaking to the coach is a last ditch effort. I do all that I can to stay out of the coach's way whether I agree with him or not. I guess I would tell my kid to be extremely careful and keep him aware of possible outcomes based on your coach's behavior but I truly do not like telling any coach how they should coach just because my kid is on their team. I did it once and it made me want to throw up.

Saying you don't always seem like you have a chip on shoulder toward JC is as funny as the crap Matney does. It's ok to dislike a school just don't hide behind it. As for this -30 yard play I still can't defend it. The coach is getting what he asked for so I see online jabs at him perfectly acceptable.

My "hate" for Johnson Central is why I've written roughly 20 articles about Shane Hall in the last two years.

I think if I had a child on the team, especially if it were the one who ran the ball backwards 30 yards and centered it, I'd have a talk with Matney about concerns that it could lead to an on the field altercation with the other team. Not saying I'd be chewing him out on it, but maybe request a meeting with him or say in passing that I'd appreciate it if it weren't my kid who was the one to do something like that when simply running forward and centering the ball (or running back 5 yards or so and centering it) on 2nd or 3rd down and just kicking on the next down would accomplish the same thing, but still be more tactful and involve less risk of an altercation occurring.

That's pretty good ATLCat. I still like my 30 yard snap to the holder idea. You could set a couple blockers 15 yards deep to make sure he gets a clean kick and no cheap shots.

Completely different to me. Getting kid 29 on the bench a basket means that you're either winning or losing big, and you're rewarding that kid for their dedication in practice, etc. that they don't usually get. You might also want to build them up for playing in the future (if they're a freshman, for example).

 

I also think there's a way to go about it that leaves your opponent's dignity in tact considering.

 

For example, no one was really criticizing leaving Chuck Smith when he let Taylor Begley go for the record by kicking on 3rd down. You can say that, even in a blowout, he was using it to prepare Begley for an in game situation where he might need to make that kick to win a game later on down the road.

 

I think that most people don't have a problem with the attempt, just the set-up for the attempt. You don't tell a kid to run back 30 yards. Running back 5-10 yards or taking a deep snap in the shotgun and running back a couple of yards and taking a knee is understandable. Kicking on 2nd or 3rd down is understandable. What isn't really as kosher is pulling a kid off the bench to run back 30 yards so your back gets his yards and then the kicker gets his too. It just seems like you are showing the opponent up for sake of showing them up when you take the "I want to have my cake and eat it too" approach. Get your back his yards and touches or get your kicker his record.

 

Don't go acting like a kid playing a video game dynasty trying to get your QB and WR into the Heisman race by having your RB take 50 yard losses just to pad your stats.
