How did McCann stay in the game and Gomez is tossed? I'd file a discrimination suit.

I wish I was pro baseball player. I'd hit a homer off the Braves and walk to first base. Word up. They act like a bunch of babies and McCann is the firestarter behind all of it. Bunch of sensitive fellas is all I see.

Johnson's a wuss. Came in on fire then held a coach in front of him.

First thing I thought as well. Sucker punch and then run around behind a bunch of guys talking smack.

Watch Johnson. He comes flying in and pushes Gomez around his face then gets next to Terry Pendleton. He then grabs Pendleton to guide him in front if him, like he is trying to hold himself back.

 

3:30 mark. He is LITERALLY pulling Pendleton in front of him. He could have EASILY gotten around him. Fraud.

 

I'm don't see it the same way. I have watched it a half dozen times now, frame by frame from the various angles. The first part of it, Johnson goes after Gomez and the two are separated by a couple Brewers. After that, I see what you guys are saying but I would say he is pulling Pendleton back just like 2/3rds of the other players were being pulled back. If that makes Johnson a fraud, then I can pick out 20 guys in that brawl, and just about every baseball brawl, and call them frauds. Johnson is one of the least fraudulent guys in that whole incident because he is the only guy who took action. Everyone else stood there screaming at each other. Johnson was the only player who laid hands on another player outside of bear hugs.

 

That was a typical baseball skirmish. You get maybe one punch and then everybody holds everybody back while they all jaw at each other and act tough.

McCann was the first person to say something, so "jawing at his pitcher" doesn't really hold water. If the Braves don't open their mouths, this is likely a non-issue.

 

And as far as what a catcher is supposed to do, he made his team look like fools. WAY worse than Gomez did.

 

We differ in opinion on basically each point (aside from McCann speaking first - I know someone says something but I never could determine who), but that's fine. I would rather he do what he did and "make them look like fools" than let it slide. And again let me say I mean this particular incident. I have said that I agree the Braves have been making way too big a deal about this stuff recently. I think they'd be getting more slack here if they hadn't had the previous ones.

 

FWIW, Gomez admitted he went too far and admitted that being hit the last time he went against Atlanta was the reason he acted that way. "I did a little bit more [than he should have], and I apologize for this," Gomez said. "But if you see the replay [from June], they hit me for no reason, and I tried to get it back today. It's the only opportunity that I have, and that's what I did. It's nothing against the organization, the Braves. I respect everyone. I would do the same thing if I'm on the other side if a guy did like I did today."

He was upset he'd been hit back in June. If they had simply hit him his next time up the way some have suggested they should do, there's no telling what he'd have done.

His "making a scene" was "admiring" the home run... Who does that really hurt? What's more dangerous... Throwing at a guys knee, or admiring a home run?

PP92 ... you know I love your posts, but you really do show you aren't a baseball guy on this one. If I am a catcher and a guy does that at home plate, I would be ready to pick up that bat he just flipped and knock him up side of the head with it, especially after he jawed at my teammates as he sloowwwwly rounded the bases. Gomez was way overboard. Honestly, I can't recall another HR showboating display that I consider worse. Since you are a football guy consider this, I would say what Gomez did would be like an opponent scoring a TD on the Cowboys, running to the star at midfield, taking off his helmet and spitting on the star. Even Gomez admitted, as posted above, that he went overboard.
