No doubt in my mind they are building something. They need to start playing competition that is much better to get more relevance in the state. Gotta schedule the big boys down state more regularly or cross the river and play those that the 'birds and blue Colonels play. They appear to be ready for that. Gotta get the 1A-4A's (except the two previously mentioned) off the schedule. Good losses to those will do more good for getting better, than playing smaller schools. They will win their share, also.

I'm rooting like crazy for SK to get on Highlands and CovCath's schedules next year.

They are solid on all levels and have an excellent feeder system.

I will say they are figuring it out. I base this on what I saw on the freshmen ranks 2 years ago.

 

I watched HHS frosh hang 50 on the Pioneers in less than 3 full quarters. These same boys are now part of the "solid" group of players competing at the varsity and JV level. I would say they must be developing players if they can show that level of improvement in a couple of years.

I think we are moving in the right direction but we need to avoid hiccups like the 2011 season. Jeff and his staff have turned a perennial bottom feeder into one of the better programs in the area.

If I am not mistaken SK has played in the regional final round of the playoffs 4 of the last 5 years. Are they ready to compete with T&X no but nobody really is and that includes all 6 levels. With over 140 in the program and all 3 levels running a platoon system they are definitely headed in the right direction.

I don't know if they are getting to "top program" status yet but I will say they should be better than they have been. They've got a lot of the check marks you look for in building a program. They're behind where they should be IMO. I'll include Ryle in that category as well. Both should be better as a program than they are.

Far too many schools splitting up the limited talent pool. Carmel, Indiana understands. 5,000 students. Award winning and huge band. Dressed 125 players vs Trinity. 7,000 seat stadium. 1 principal and 8 assistant principals to run the school.

Twenhofel and its Head Coach, Steve Funke, play a HUGE role in the "feeder" system as well. The school had 900 kids in it and never had a football team until a great staff was put together and within 2 years developed kids like Jordan Hansel who had never played football before and were Top 2 teams in the NKY Middle School league and then in 3rd year they dominated everyone in NKY and won the title. Hats off to Jerry Cline (original H.C. at Twenhofel), Steve Funke (SK grad., teacher at Twenhofel, and current coach, Mike Walls (was O.C. & D.C. at Dayton and now at Scott), and Jason Steffen (current HC at Ludlow M.S.).

 

So I believe, with two major and successful feeder programs working together, SK should be top 2 in NKY 6A and among Top 10 in State every year for near future.
