Honestly I was fine with Affleck, Cavill, and Gadot. In fact I think the Batfleck fears were overblown. I think the issue is more that Zack Snyder is showing himself to be a one trick pony of a director much like M Night Shyamalan.

Agree pretty much with this assessment. I wonder what will be in the additional 30 minutes they've already announced will be in the DVD release? I've read more of the fight scenes and enough additional violence to get an R rating.

 

I think one of the biggest issues for this movie is that there was a BIG story to tell and in the end making it all fit in 2 and a half hours seems to have been where they went wrong in the eyes of some.

 

I didn't feel bogged down by some of the small subplots the way some others have but it wouldn't have bothered me if some of it was out either.

The highlight of the movie for me was watching kids ages 5-9 probably, walk in with their dad's wearing a Batman or Superman cape. Kind of a dark movie for kids that age but then again I grew up on Die Hard and Lethal Weapon so I was OK with it.

 

To go with that, there was a lot of talk about the movie being dark and violent. I didn't feel like it was that bad but maybe I'm not as sensitive as I should be.

The extreme negative reviews 1000% come from Marvel fan boys. This was a good movie. I'm not a comic book guy and I go to these movies because they have become best action movies. This movie delivered.

I just disagree. The movie did what it was suppose to and that's be the start of entire to universe of movies.

 

Viewers seem to like it and critics don't. Most critics shouldn't be judging comic movies anyway.

 

It's so weird I never read single comic in my youth but I love these movies.

Saw it over the weekend with my son -- he LOVED it, I liked it. I think Affleck was a GREAT Bruce Wayne, and a good Batman. Superman was fine. Thought Amy Adams was fine. Really enjoyed the Wonder Woman role and back-story. Obviously the set-up was for future movies involving the Justice League and their cast of characters. The movie just bounced around a lot for me. Hard to give too many more thoughts without dancing around spoilers, but I thought it was 100% worth seeing, just go in with somewhat tempered expectations.

 

I did think both Eisenberg's and Hunter's characters were really solid and well cast.

 

My son did have a funny line walking out of the movie that I don't think gives away anything of substance, "Dad, isn't weird after so many movies and books that we've seen and read, that we never knew Metropolis and Gotham City were right next to each other?" Kids are funny.

Went and seen it Sunday night. Absolutely LOVED It. Didn't care too much for the ending, even tho I'm a batman fan. Plan on getting it on DVD when it comes out.

Can't most ALL directors be described in this manner though? You want "kinda odd/weird with a lot of cussing and plenty of Samuel L. Jackson with liberal use on the "N" word", then you get Quinton Tarantino. You want lots of action/cg effects with not very good dialogue and little plot, you get Michael Bay. You want freaking weird with lots of imagery that almost no one understands but the critics seem to love, then Terrence Malick is your man. You want dark and brooding with an "other world/fantasy" plot, give Sack Snider a call.

I thought it was a very good movie for the first two hours & then the last 30 minutes or so were pretty bad.

I've read several reviews from critics and friends that complained about Superman and Batman's moral code seems to have changed. Watching the movie a second time last night I watched for that in particular.

 

Superman IMO doesn't do anything out of character for Superman from the comics. Looking at this story arc he has only been "Superman" for a short time, just a couple of years and is still trying to figure out who he is and what he is. Some speak of the violence from Superman and the brooding as being out of character. Remember however that almost all of that is in a Bruce Wayne dream sequence, not in reality. He throws a guy through a wall, but that's not the first time he's done something like, that to save someone else.

 

Batman has guns mounted on his Batplane and Batmobile, just like he always has had. He used those guns just like he always has done. Neither of these is really out of character, the only difference is that in a couple of cases his aim is better than it was in previous movies and comics where he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Even then he targets vehicles and not necessarily the people in them shooting at him. In his big fight scene, the real one not the one in his dream, he fights hand to hand just like he always has. Against a room full of heavily armed bad guys he used his fighting prowess and gadgets to defeat them. Some complain that towards the end of that fight that he stabs a guy and kills him. Watching the movie again and watching for that, I noticed that he stabbed that guy in the shoulder. That same guy is shown in the background later trying to pull the knife out of his shoulder.

 

As far as the big fight between Batman and Superman, well it pretty much follows along the same way it always has in the comics. Batman uses Kryptonite to even the playing field and then uses his superior fighting skills to kick Superman's butt. Without Kryptonite, as Superman says, "If I wanted it, you'd be dead."

 

Wonder Woman is much more powerful than I ever expected.

 

I wish Doomsday would have been kept a secret until you saw the movie and not leaked in the trailers...but the Doomsday/Superman ending again is pretty true to the comics. As soon as I saw Doomsday was in this movie I knew Superman was going to die...at least temporarily.

 

Ben Afleck IMO was as good of a Batman/Bruce Wayne as there has been. By the time all of the slated DC movies are complete he will have portrayed Batman on the big screen at least 7 times, and will be thought of as "The Batman" for years to come.

I also don't get those who said Superman had a darker tone...he didn't and was the same "good old mid western American values apple pie loves his mom" he always is. Anything "dark" was in Batman's mind shown in dream sequence fashion, which is exactly what Lex Luthor was trying to accomplish (get Bruce Wayne to hate Superman so much he would try and take him out). The only little bit of difference was that Batman for a while there was actually raging enough that we was going to kill Superman, thinking he was bad for the world and would eventually take over. So no, the tone was not changed for either one of the two characters.

 

As far as Wonder Woman, from what I have read in the past, she has been almost Superman's equal in strength for a while now (not sure if this was the case 40-50 years ago, but has been the theme in recent history). I don't think, however, she can take quite the pounding that he can or recover quite as quickly, again if you follow along with relatively recent comic book story lines.

 

What I don't/didn't like, however, is the seemingly changing level of power characters have, and this is a common theme in Marvel movies as well I think. Batman is just a regular dude with lots of gadgets...as soon as Superman took him through the first brick wall he should have been at least out of commission, if not dead. And DEFINITELY done as soon as he went through a second brick wall. And even though WW is supposedly almost Superman's equal strength wise, she seemed in this movie to be...maybe even stronger than him, or at least the more capable superhero.

 

As far as the overall movie goes, it was...ok. As many have pointed out, it was to long, maybe by about 20-25 minutes or so. I also didn't like the way it ended. I think it could have been edited down much better to create a quicker, more concise movie that better held the audience's attention. Unlike some on here, I didn't care for Eisneburg as LL, or at least didn't like the way he portrayed the character. But then I'm just not much of a fan of any of his work really. Really like Gadot as WW...she is smoking hot, sexy AND pulls of the "warrior queen" thing, all at the same time. I thought Affleck as BB was fine. What I didn't like though was Jeremy irons as Alfred, and how it was made to seem like he was the brains behind the whole Batman operation...building stuff, repairing stuff. Almost like Batman was just the "dumb muscle". I didn't care for that angle.

Just saw it and loved it all. And I'm a big time Marvel Fanboy. I don't understand the negativity but I am not a comic book purist and I can't pick out subtleties in movies to know if they are good or bad. I'm either entertained or I'm not. I was highly entertained.

 

Now on bring on Civil War!!!!!
