I was surprised when JD said he was his favorite Batman so far.

I felt the same way when he was announced as the new Batman. I think he'll surprise you.

I think this movie was let down by its writing. No offense to Zach Snyder but not every superhero movie needs to be like Watchmen. I kept feeling like I was watching an alternate version of Watchmen during parts of this.

 

Some good parts were in it for sure. I don't think Affleck did terribly and at times I think there were genuinely good moments. Gal Gadot should have had more screen time, Wonder Woman was definitely one of the better parts of the film.

 

That aside this film definitely seemed disjointed; too many subplots diluted what could have been a pretty good movie. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be based on reviews, but it certainly doesn't seem to pose any threat to Marvel's cinematic dominance.

 

Throwing in the other JL members was somewhat ham fisted. Snyder definitely needs to learn nuance and subtlety because the overt attempts to bring things in out from the DC universe was a bit much.

No, but I did go see it.

 

I'll stand by what I said, this is a really good movie IMO. Batman and Superman both do somethings they have neither really done much of in the past.

 

Looking at the Rotten Tomatoes this afternoon the Audience Approval is around 75% with an average rating of 3.9 out of 5

 

Just like Ford vs Chevy or Nike vs Under Armor...many people will poo poo this movie because of the Marvel vs DC thing without being able to look at it honestly. FWIW I drive a Ford and a GMC, wear Sketchers and like Marvel and DC both.

I don't care what the critics say, most of them have no soul.

 

I don't care what comic book purists say, this is a movie not a comic book. There are difference in the characterizations of the principals and that's OK

 

I don't care what the guy that owns the comic shop where I spend too much money said. See above.

 

I liked this movie. I thought Affleck was spot on as a haggard Batman who had spent the last 20 years fighting. I liked the story and had no problem at all following it and it made sense to me. It took parts from 2 of my favorite comic story arcs, The Dark Knight Rises and The Death of Superman. I like Eisenberg as Luthor, as the movie payed out and his actual role was revealed he became more delightfully unhinged. I liked the battle of the icons and it played out pretty much the way I thought it would.

 

I don't go to a movie like this looking for Citizen Kane. I want a good story and characters that I like. I feel like I got both here.

He is on point on a few things, but is an angry fanboy in other ways. It wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible. It was hard to watch because its narrative structure was so incoherent. I really think that DC learned the wrong lessons from Green Lantern and the most recent Batman trilogy. Dark and gritty isn't 100% necessary and lighthearted isn't 100% bad either. They need to work with the characters as who they are.

 

Marvel understands this, that's why how they have handled most everything has been great. Daredevil is a perfect example, he is a darker character and his show is dark. Captain America is an idealistic character and all about American values of freedom and liberty. Their use of the character with Chris Evans is spot on.

 

DC needs to stop with the no humor policy that has existed since the GL debacle with Ryan Reynolds and work the characters with who they are. At least work within the framework of the character in some way. They got Wonder Woman right by focusing on her warrior nature and she was excellent on screen. In fact she was my favorite part of the movie.

I liked it but I hands down liked the Batman trilogy a lot more. Just something about those movies I could align with more, a lot more.

 

I was trying to figure out what I liked about those movies more while trying to enjoy this one. It was tough. I think the acting was better in the Trilogy, but most of all the music and cinematics were more on point with the Trilogy. Everything in those films were crisp and concise where at times, for lack of better words this film left me wanting more. There were scenes where I expected something to happen and it just didn't come to life for me.

 

Again it wasn't bad and it was way better than the last non trilogy Batman or Superman. It just wasn't great.

I am so depressed about this and I haven't even seen the movie yet. Big Superman fan, have a tattoo lol. It just sounds like they got his character "wrong". They certainly got it wrong in Man of Steel and my hope was that they would take those events and have superman decide something like "i'll never do that again," and change into his boy scout character. Sounds like they went the other way and made him even more grim and smug. bleh.

 

Part of me says "go see it, it cant be that bad" the other part is saying "dont want to give my money to a bunch of corporate douches who own the rights to characters that they don't care about." MF having an internal crisis!

Honestly I was fine with Affleck, Cavill, and Gadot. In fact I think the Batfleck fears were overblown. I think the issue is more that Zack Snyder is showing himself to be a one trick pony of a director much like M Night Shyamalan.

Actually I think that is what they tried to go with here, but it's hard to find hope in the gloomfests that Snyder likes to direct.

I'm not trying to flame the fans of it either. I am just trying to clarify where the criticism is coming from and trying to indicate where the narrative structure was lacking.
