What team is better coached, Mayfield or Beechwood?

Featured Replies

I hope you are kidding. Shoot, I blind man can see that in single A there is no one to play until you get to the semi-finals. Nice try though to pat yourself on the back. You crack me up!

No I'm not kidding, and you are actually helping to make my point. You say Class A is a joke until the semis. Then explain to me why Mayfield, with their "great" coaches, couldn't get past Frankfort and Crittenden Co. in the regional finals in 2007 and 2008? I'll tell you why, because they weren't very good those two years. Beechwood hammered both of those teams on their way to state titles those years. Beechwood gets to Mayfield when they are down, Mayfield doesn't get to the semis to face Beechwood when they are down. If 1A is so bad they should get to the semis every year based on your logic.

Very, very little. Beechwood was beating everyone during that run. They were tougher than tough.

And Danville wasn't? Yeagle's first four titles were in the same four years that Danville went 57-2 and beating teams that were in the AAA and AAAA State Finals along the way. You don't see them splitting?

Even later, when Danville moved to Class A they responded by winning three state titles which was their first crowns in 5 seasons. I don't think you can dismiss the question that easily 75.

Lit rankings from the regular season in those years:

'91: DHS #2 Overall in State BHS #5

'92: DHS #5 Overall in State BHS not in top 20

'93: DHS #1 Overall in State BHS not in top 20

'94: DHS #3 Overall in State BHS #9

I don't put grand stock in Lit ratings, but I think you can see if Danville played in the class their enrollment stated their is plenty of room for debate in that first four title run.

Beechwood was also beating up on larger schools during that run. Ask CCH who was also on a nice run at the time.

Of course there's room for debate. There always is, that's why this site stays in business. What if's are great. It's just my opinion that it would not have changed things.

Why don't you all just whip'm out and measure'm, coaches that is.

Well, first off. I never said 'Great'. But not surprised that you would put words in my mouth. But, whatever!

All I know is that they have embarrassed you and the Beechwood staff the past 3 years and you guys have a huge monkey on your back that you can't shake. I just love how when you guys lose to them 'Beechwood is down', 'we got beat by a better team'. I have been to the banquets and I have heard your fearless leader say those things. I guess if he says it enough, it becomes true in the other coaches minds. This is only my opinion, but you guys need to look in the mirror and quit throwing the kids under the bus. They work their tails off all season long only to see their staff scramble like little school girls when they play a competitive team. I can tell you for a fact, the folks in Ft. Mitchell are tired of that. Last year, at halftime, there were no visible adjustments from your side after halftime. The winning team adjusted. Also, I will not believe for a minute that the 2011 team was not as good as Mayfield. Choked again!

I understand that sometimes teams are just better than others (see above) but in this case, Coach Morris is 2 or 3 steps ahead of you guys. I'll bet you a hot fudge sundae that if the two of you make it to the semi's again this year.....same result.

Beechwood has not been embarrassed by Mayfield the past 3 years.

Yes, the 2011 team losing to Mayfield ranks as probably the biggest disappointment in Rash's tenure, and he will tell you that himself.

I have never heard players thrown under the bus by anyone in the Beechwood program. Posters on BGP do not count as part of the program.

I agree that the coaches need to adjust some things. For me, it is a more effective passing game and taking more risk on offense by throwing the ball.

I never threw the players under the bus. Beechwood's players work as hard or harder than any team in the state. However, if you can honestly say that in 2009, 2010, and 2012 that Mayfield didn't have a clear advantage in personnel, then you are delusional!

You talk about halftime adjustments in last years game. Here was the halftime adjustment by Mayfield: Jonathan Jackson took over the game, plain and simple!

You guys are arguing with someone that obviously has a burr in his saddle for Rash, maybe his feelings or his son's feelings were hurt by Rash. Most of his posts have been against Rash. For sure has an agenda.

Correct. Mayfield is in 1A, NCC is in 2A in reference to NKYfootballfan91's comment about the two not being in the same class.

History "...The younger kids look good, but as you know the Tigers might be elevated to 2A status soon with the ever shifting sands of enrollment for various schools around the state."

I see from the enrollment reports (linked in another thread and again below) that 1A Mayfield has 216 boys as compared to 2A NCC's 215 so does it seem likely Mayfield will be reclassified to 2A during the next reclassification period so perhaps this can be settled on the field in the near future? Perhaps Beechwood's numbers also would put them in the 2A classification (188 boys versus, for example, current 2A Brossart that has 162 boys so they seem somewhat likely to switch or swap classes) moving the Big 3 to the same class 2A and making that Class very interesting although that would put Beechwood/NCC back in the same tough position they have been at some periods in the past of having to get past an exceptionally tough district rival opponent (each other) to get out of the region ala Trinity/St. X, Highlands/CovCath, LexCath/Boyle) whereas Mayfield would have a much easier path at least to the state semis. That also would make Class A wide open (i.e., perhaps the only class where we can't name 4 teams or usually only 2 or 3 today and have a 90% chance of naming the 2020 state champion).

I think this tells us a lot about the question ask in this thread, Morris and staff have been better.

I will give you credit though, not throwing a blind eye to what needs to be done I believe will lead to improving the Bw program and I honestly think that the talent will favor Bw after this year but it did in 11 and that didn't work out and I think that was a credit to Mf coaches and the blame in 11 on the Bw side I feel is on the Bw coaches for not having an effective passing game and taking more risk on offense by throwing the ball.

This year Bw has the chance to take down Mf if the coaches do those things but I still think things favor Mf this year (assuming we can get past Russellville). In my experience it takes awhile to develop the passing game to the level it needs to be to be effective. MF conversion began in 07 a little and 08 and it took til 09 for us to have it down to pat. After this year Bw will be at a talent advantage for atleast a couple of seasons the way it looks to me right now so Rash and crew will have golden opportunities the next few years

Not exactly the whole story with last years game. It was tied at the half though Mf had some uncharacteristic drop balls that looked like they would have had the chance to take to the house. At the half Mf adjusted things on both sides of the ball and it started with the passing game where we started catching the ball. On defense the Cards adjusted to what Bw was doing and it appears to have caught Rash and company without a plan B as it was brutal to watch Bw on offense.

Eye of the Tiger's game report stated " As others stated above, it was no contest in the second half. Beechwood had 4 possessions, three 3 and outs and then finally one first down on their last drive. On the other side, Mayfield seemed to move the ball at will"

VOR stated "I am not sure I know what the heck happened in the second half. It is easy to say Jonathon Jackson and use that as an "excuse". But there is much more to it than that. The thought that comes to mind is the Mayfield coaches made adjustments that worked and Beechwood didn't. How else do you explain it? All you can do is tip your hat and say congratulations to the Cardinals. They have Beechwood figured out and Beechwood can't figure them out"

If both Mf and Bw move to class AA the only way they would ever get to face each other would be in the title game, as it should be, as they would be on opposite sides of the bracket with Mf in the west and Bw in the east

This thread is great for enjoyment ..... but ... there are a couple things that need to be addressed:

1. "Quicker Than Slick" does NOT = "quickslick" (anyone who knows me has a clue about my writing style .... and no ... I am a Conner graduate ... so I am not smart enough to fake it).

2. Even though no one is truly "Quicker Than Slick" .... I think that, whoever this is--is doing a great job.

I do want to be clear ... if anyone truly thinks this is me ... I am more than willing to provide my IP address ... or any other information to prove that fact (besides ... isn't this the time of the year where I would be spying on Conner practices?)

My last thought is this ... until WE (Everyone involved) beat Mayfield .... there is nothing to say.

I never threw the players under the bus. Beechwood's players work as hard or harder than any team in the state. However, if you can honestly say that in 2009, 2010, and 2012 that Mayfield didn't have a clear advantage in personnel, then you are delusional!

Mayfield's adjustments started with catching the ball on offense? That's an unbelievable halftime adjustment, you must have Bill Walsh in your locker room!

I think that falls under execution! The plays weren't made in the first half and they made them in the second half.

I don't have any burr in my saddle. I apologize for portraying that view. I am just disappointed in the way the program is going; and right or wrong, I blame the coaching/leaders. It may not be fair but not much in life is. I know how hard those boys work and I would like for them to win a championship (as I'm sure the coaches would).
