If the game was meaningless then sure, whatever. BUT it does mean something and I'm sure the players probably want experienced players fighting for home field instead of some guy who has only played 30 games or so.

I do not think they give two craps about the game itself and its implications with the home field advantage. That is probably not fair. For some of the first timers, sure. But a bulk of the guys that are shoe-ins no matter what they do on the field find it more of a hindrance they even have to show up for the game. It is not a coincidence a lot of these guys are suddenly injured come mid-July.

Totally disagree. A lot of players have performance bonuses like making the All Star team in their contract.

Disagree, players who have playoff hopes care about home field, it's crazy to say they don't.

As LRCW said, a lot of players have bonuses tied to All-star appearence, All-star MVP, etc. so it does matter to a lot of players.

If you are an established pro player they hate going to all star games and would rather have the rest. That is pretty common knowledge. Or so I thought it was.

So by that same rationale players that have no shot do not care about the home field advantage?

Look, I am not saying some guys do not care or have a reason not to. That is not fair for me to say. But do not kid yourself in to thinking all of these guys are caught up with the sanctity of what the All Star game is about. I am not buying it for one second. Which is the main reason why I think it is comical people are getting their panties in a wad about this. Or for LRCW his thong.

You've been picturing me in a thong all day haven't you? I was afraid that would happen after you broke up with your wife's boss.

I'm not saying each and every player cares about the All-Star game because I know that's not true. I think we agree on the big picture but differ on the finer details.

Please tell me you didn't just ask who Freddie Freeman is? :ohbrother:

Yeah. I don't watch baseball. It sucks. I'm what you would call a casual fan. I watch Sportscenter and look at the pretty catches and nice home runs. Baseball sucks ever since they made them quit juicing. No. I have no clue who Freddie Freeman is not do I care. I do know who Yasiel Puig is though. I hear about him everyday. And Miguel Carbrera. And that dude on the Orioles who keeps hitting home runs. The Upton Brothers. Bartolo Colon. Mariano Rivera. Papelbon. Ben Revere. Blake Perry. Jacob Bodner. I know the household names. Freddie Freeman isn't a household name.

Hey, if Puig is voted in by the fans, so be it. He wasn't, so he doesn't deserve to be there.

Oh come on now, you can't go with that. You mean to tell me there has never been a player that deserved to be an All-Star that didn't make because the fans didn't vote them in.

Maybe he doesn't deserve it based on your opinion, but don't base it on the facts the fans didn't vote for him validate it.

Blake Perry? Jacob Bonder? Never hear of them.

Blake Perry? Jacob Bonder? Never hear of them.

Jacob Bodner. Not Bonder. :D

They haven't gotten there yet. But they will. I hope.

If you can hear of Freddie Freeman then I can hear of Blake and Jacob. They are household names in my household. Word.

Sure it didn't hurt to put Lin in the game but he isn't an all-star nor a rising star. So in that regard just put in anyone who has a great stat stretch of 15 games or so.

The system is flawed for how the whole thing is put together anyway. MLB needs to fix it and make it clear cut.

I think I would take a player that is hot as hell going into the all star game. Let's not act like Freeman is a seasoned veteran. He's in his 3rd year and hasn't exactly lit it up. Freeman will be lucky to have an at bat in this game. If your best argument is the team needs Freeman to bring home the win then this argument is over.

By his logic, Freeman is not deserving either because the fans didn't vote him in.

Maybe so but that is not saying much.

Here is some interesting commentary on All Star games and their viewership: Are ratings for All-Star Games going up or down across sports? | February | 2013

Just because American Idol gets amazing ratings doesn't mean its a good show right? Arrested Development IMO was one of the greatest shows on TV, yet its ratings were horrible. I know ratings mean money, but I don't think it reflects the quality of the product. Also if the NBA is so much better than why are the ratings so poor?

Can the MLB fix the All Star game? most definitely. Will those changes effect the ratings? I seriously doubt it

Puig is really starting to rub some folks around baseball the wrong way. Seems he got a butt chewing from McGuire yesterday during BP for being disrespectful to D Backs coach. D backs manager says,'he plays with a certain arrogance.'

Got thrown out at home after running through a stop sign.....again. Then gave the catcher a little shove.

Can you say Manny?
