Florida Police Choke 14 Year Old Boy Holding Puppy For "Dehumanizing Stares"

Featured Replies

The youth was rough housing with friends at the beach on Memorial Day. The two officers saw him slam another teen to the ground and, thinking it was a fight, went to investigate. When it became evident that it was just horseplay the officers asked the teen to point out his mother. The teen says he complied and tried to lead them to his Mom, the officers said he started walking away. The officers dismounted their ATVs and moved to detain him. They felt threatened by his body language which included "closed arms, clenched fists and dehumanizing stares" so they placed him in a choke hold due to sensing an "immenent threat" from the 14 year old. The teen and his family claim that it would have been impossible for him to have been clenching his fists in a threatening manner since he had a 6 week old puppy in one hand and a baby bottle that he was using to water the puppy in the other. The teen says that his puppy was injured when the officers ripped it from his hands while slamming him to the ground. While being choked the teen urinated on himself. He was charged with a felony count of resisting arrest with violence and a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. Doesn't this sound like a little bit of overkill?

You gotta be kidding me. Obviously there are two sides to every story but really....dehumanizing stares? The officers felt an imminent threat from the boy? Those cops sound like a couple of beach punks to me.

Yeah, kind of hard to defend the police based on the info we have.

This is why every officer I encounter gets a smile and yes sir, no sir, thank you from PP92. I ain't trying to pee on myself.

Looks pretty bad on the PoPo from what the kid is saying.

Is this made up?

That's the only way I can see this from the cops.

I think it's the perfect story of only hearing 1 side of the story.

My teens have shown me this on many occasions. Never once did I feel threatened. Never once did I have to use a choke hold. Just take away the cell phone or the car keys or both. Works every time. You would be surprised how quickly the "look" and posture changes. :lol2:

Well, I guess the pertinent question here is...the puppy he was holding...was it a pit bull?:sarcastic:

He'd have to be one tough looking kid to rob them of their humanity simply with a stare--while holding a puppy and a baby bottle.

Not going to lie. Have had many a kid give me that look and I wanted to choke them.

No way I harm the puppy, though.

Of course we are getting one side, but I have known plenty of policemen, and it is a very difficult job. But, I KNOW some of them who get off on the power of the position.

I thought you might appreciate that reference.
