Did Boone County suspend Coach Fookes?

Featured Replies

Trust me, I'm not calling for the school "KGB" to haul off every kid to a darkened room for the slightest infraction, however kids these days have parents and teachers "over a barrel". I'm all for a little stern discipline when needed.

As far as Nell "sneaking a peak", these kids show off more skin at the local swim club than Nell probably saw.

As a teacher of 17 years (with part of those as a coach, all them working in some form or another with extracurricular groups), I have never felt that students "have me over a barrel."

Just to allow my co-workers to feel safe today and know that their cell phones are safe, I decided to work today shirtless.

A very noble gesture, indeed.

Actually Boone County is still in session through tomorrow.

From what I understand Coach Fookes is not at school teaching and she is not having any contact with her basketball team and their off-season workouts.

Guru, not sure your info is completely accurate!

Man, this thread sure took on a life of its own "guilty until proven innocent" following one post which seems to clearly be "hearsay". I have an opinion "IF" it happened as described, but I know the integrity of this woman and I choose to wait to hear the facts from credible sources before convicting her. A lot of very good people have their reputations trashed by false accusations & assumptions of guilt. You of all people understand.

What information you quoted is inaccurate?

Coach Fookes was "suspended" from school at the time I posted that statement she was not having any contact with the basketball team. Since that time I understand Coach Fookes has started having contact with the basketball team again.

Again, what information you quoted is inaccurate?

I'm shocked that anyone would defend a student being strip searched by a teacher looking for a phone. Actually shocked might not even cover it. Did she find the phone when she carried this out?

I really don't think kid's have parent's and teachers over a barrel. It's important to protect kids because most of the time they are not physically or mentally/emotionally mature enough to deal with overzealous adults. They deserve to be respected and treated fairly. It's pretty easy to spank or humiliate a child (even a teenager) and call it punishment because it's not realistic for a kid to be able to fight back without incurring greater wrath. It's similar to domestic violence against women. As a coach employed by a school district, I don't put myself in a situation where a kid has me over the barrel. If you treat kids with respect and be fair with and use appropriate punishments (none of which should ever be physically or verbally abusive) they will respect you back and you've got nothing to worry about. Sure there will be a few outliers that you can't get through to, but smacking them around or humiliating them certainly will not make things any better. If your idea of "stern discipline" is appropriate and constructive punishment, then I agree with you. If on the other hand, it's the "ruler across the hand", I couldn't disagree more, and if that's your method, if you find yourself "over the barrel", it's your fault.

Agree 100%.

My apologies, I should have stated "in general". Do I think all kids have us over a barrel, hell no.

Please don't fill yourself with false hope, Crunch-time. I can assure you of this, Guru's "info" is accurate and I can also assure you there isn't a bigger fan of Coach Fookes than I. However, with that said, she herself has acknowledged she made a big mistake and I could only imagine how she feels about what's going to happen to her future. I know we all have people we are loyal to, but that facts in this case are clear. I've been on the record in this thread and in personal conversations with people that as a parent, I have no issue, personally, with what she did - as long as there was clear belief my daughter was guilty. You're piling on of Guru is unnecessary. I've been here since the beginning, with different names, and I couldn't tell you one time that he posted info that was not "completely accurate". We no longer live in the world where the newspaper breaks news to us. We now find breaking news on places like BGP, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Unfortunately, someone has to break that news and in many cases the person who breaks the news is crucified by those who choose not to believe it. It's my hope that Coach is allowed to continue her coaching career when the dust settles, but she's in a tough spot right now.

Has the dust settled yet?

I believe so.

I understand Coach Fookes is back with the team and she successfully jumped through all the hoops the Boone County Board of Education set up for her. However, ask the school system about it and you will get a no response... In other words, they are doing their best to conceal the entire situation.

Are we sure we know how much skin was seen? I guess this is an excuse? So if it was a male teacher with the same female students will it still be okay?

Personally it's all wrong imo, considering alternative lifestyles in all, what is the difference if it is a man and girl or girl and girl or man and man?

Gender has nothing to do with it all today, nothing. JMO

Just ask the courts and watch the news...

I believe so.

Nor should they say anything. This is a personnel matter. If the Administration believes she met their requirements, I am sure it is time to move on. Coach Fookes has helped many young ladies become outstanding citizens and responsible adults. If anyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, it is she.

I disagree, schools are tax funded and therefore have to be transparent/accountable and their actions are subject public record/disclosure.
