My first game was in 1970. I believe it was the second game ever played in Riverfront Stadium. I was in a summer school program at EKU for high schoolers called Upward Bound. They took us to the game on one of Eastern's buses. It's been a long time but I think Hank Aaron hit a homer for the Braves, and Clete Boyer hit one too. Maybe Perez hit one for the Reds. It's been a long time. I don't even remember who won. I was just excited to see them for the first time.

Meeting an old lady who was sitting next to me who lived in an apartment downtown. She sent me a sticker and a cap. Coolest thing that ever happened to me. I remember sending her a thank you and always wondering where she lived in the big city!

Early 60's drove up from Louisville on US 42. We ate at the Union Terminal. The Reds played the Houston Colts 45 at Crosley Field. We sat next to the visiting teams ramp from the locker room where the Colts walked out to the field and I was excited to see the players up close. I have no idea who won, but do remember being impressed how Vada Pinson could run and cover center feld, because that was the position I played in Little League. My dad made me watch him to learn how to play the position. Never quite could do it as well as he did.

Some drunken idiot two rows behind us yelling "C'mon Archie!" every time Ken Griffey came to bat.

Sat in the right field Sundeck at Crosley Field about 1969(100th Anniversary of Reds baseball, I believe).....loved watching Bobby Tolan catch fly balls to right field. I sat there in pure wonder and amazement!

It wasn't my first game but my first memory was watching Chris Sabo hit a walk off home run with my grandpa.

I can't remember the exact details, but I'm pretty sure that my first game was an in-season exhibition game against the Cleveland Indians in the mid-70's that didn't count towards their record.

 

I think there was a special name for the night but for the life of me I can't remember what it was. I believe that the stars started the game, but were quickly replaced by the bench.

 

I was excited about attending, but remember feeling a little let down because it really wasn't a legit game that mattered.

 

Not too long after I got to attend a Joe Morgan bat day.

 

Don't have a clue about whatever happened to that bat, but I had it in my room until I moved into my first apartment.

 

For a few years in my early teens I earned "Straight A" tickets.

 

My brother had fantastic season tickets behind home plate in the blue seats and always gave me the Sunday doubleheaders because he had to work. That was pretty cool. I think that was the 77 and 78 season. I felt like a big shot sitting in premium seats.

 

I attended the very last game at Riverfront Stadium that was a Pete Rose Bobble Head night Softball game including various retired baseball stars.

 

I watched the demolition of Riverfront Stadium from a 12 story high-rise in downtown Cincinnati.

 

I attended the first game at Great American which was an exhibition game against the Cleveland Indians where I recall Carl Lindner waving goodnight to me and my friend as we were leaving the ball park.

 

Of course I attended many more games over the years, but those are the ones that stand out in my memory.

Reds lost 6-10 to the Pirates for a 4 game sweep. 7/14/91

 

Bobby Bo went deep as did some skinny kid named Bonds.

 

I remember that Eric Gregg and Joe West were umps that day as well

 

There was a Drunk Pittsburg Fan behind us that yelled "Hit it with your purse Braggs" the entire game while holding a drink in one hand and a broom in the other...well he did until an usher finally checked his ticket and told him to go back to his seat in the upper deck or leave.

 

Riverfront was soooooo much smaller than I thought it would be.

I know I went to several games at Crosley Field when I was young. The one game I remember most was during the park's last year in 1970 (prior to the opening of Riverfront Stadium). That was a period of time for the 17-year cicadas. I remember seeing the cicadas all over the netting behind home plate and distracting both fans and players. At 10 years old, I thought the sight was pretty funny.

My first Red's game was my second game ever. June of 1978, Reds beat the Phillies (at Veterans Stadium) 8-7 in extra innings. Phils scored 4 or 5 runs in the first, and it looked like it was going to be an easy win. Red's came back, with Foster hitting a home run to tie the game with two outs in the 9th. Pete Rose drove in the winning run in the 10th.

 

My first game in Cincinnati was at Riverfront in 1994 a few years before I moved into the area when I was visiting my wife's family for the first time (before we got married). The Red's played the Giants, and I don't remember anything from that game, although I do have some pics of a very skinny Barry Bonds.

We went to bat day alot in the late 60's early 70's but he game I remember the most is Art Shamsky hit three Home Runs.
