School Suspends 5-Year Old for Having a Mohawk

Maybe it was shaped like a gun....

This Ohio school is pretty hardcore:

Ethan Clos earns suspension for Mohawk haircut

Yes, it's a pretty stupid thing to suspend a kid for. But, I also think that it's ultimately the parents' fault, because there are a great many stupid parents out there as well.

Did the kid really want or know about a mohawk? Or was it because of his parents influence?

There was a recent story about a kid holding a sign up at a Who concert, with Pete Townsend responding negatively. Who was at fault? Pete Townsend, or the guy who brought his 5 year old child to a Who concert and had the kid hold up a sign?

As stupid as school administrators have shown themselves capable of being, don't underestimate the stupidity of the parents of today. Either way, it's the kids who suffer.

So a 5 year old is going to miss a few days of kindergarten. Kid is not suffering too much.

I don't know. Who's on first?

It's a mohawk. What's the harm in a mohawk?

It drives me nuts when I see 4 and 5 year old kids with mohawks and mullets. That kid will get about 17/18 years old and realize how embarrassing it is that he went around with that hairstyle. Who wants their kindergarten school picture in the yearbook to include a mohawk?

Superintendent Gregg Morris said the hairstyle was a distraction for students and violates district rules.

“Our policy clearly states that any dress or grooming which is disruptive or distracting to the educational process is not acceptable. In this particular case, the student’s hairstyle did provide disruption to the classroom,” Morris said.

If it goes against school policy, then the parents should be smart enough to understand that and leave it be.

A mohawk is just the beginning. Kid would've been pimping out 1st graders in no time. Glad the school stepped in.

So if a kid falls and breaks his arm over the weekend, I think he should be suspended 4-6 weeks until the cast comes off. That would clearly be a distraction to other students.

Overweight kids must also get into shape. No distractions!

"Should" being the operative word.
