I can give you the name of a family you would immediately associate with Holy Cross. They would love to send their child to Holy Cross but they know it is not an option.

Here is how it works in a nutshell at HC, according to their own website:

 

"While the Academic Enhancement Program of Holy Cross High School strives to serve students with disabilities, the school is not equipped to deal with disabilities of all types. In addition, the school cannot accommodate disabilities that significantly impair the learning environment for other students or teachers. The Academic Enhancement Coordinator, in coordination with the principal, will determine whether the school can adequately accommodate the students needs on an individual basis. Holy Cross High School can only accommodate a limited number of students with disabilities. Therefore, the Academic Enhancement Coordinator, in conjunction with the principal, may deny admission due to enrollment and staffing levels."

My friends child is a senior. His issue is with comprehension. It is not a physical issue nor would he be considered disruptive to others. He played on one of the sports teams the past 4 years.

Walter I guess you are to young to realize what Coach Ron Dawn brings to the table now that he is the head coach at NewCath. They will be tough to beat in the 9th they have most returning starters and Ron will bring that toughness they need on D. Lookout 9th region and they are playing from what I heard the toughest schudule next year. King of the Bluegrass, Lexington Catholic Tourney and throw in there the All A State Tourney. My #1 pick in region Hands Down and if they get the Moeves they will even be better and have a lot of depth.

By golly, I do believe athletics may play a part in this decision. I also believe that the question regarding the family's means, desire, and so forth may have been slightly disingenuous: if a family chooses schools based on whether a coach stays or goes, it's either a heck of a coincidence or it's, well....

Very, very few people know the whole story on why families make these decisions. IMO, there is almost always much more to it than just athletics. Brannen being hired should help the Moeves family refute any claim someone would make that the move is all about athletics, especially if they end up at NCC. If it was all about basketball, then why wouldn't they stay at Walton with the coach they were thinking of moving to? I am confident there is much more to this than just athletics.

At Walton all 3 brothers could start this coming year due to the mass exodus over the past couple of years at Walton. At NCC they would be placed on a great team that could repeat at the All A, win the region, make the headlines in the Enquirer. play in 2 huge Invitational tourneys down state and gain additional "exposure".

NCC now has a coach, that one could argue is better than the one heading to Walton. Not saying there may be other issues as well, just pointing out it could be hoops related.

Good point, and I should probably back-pedal and stress that there's no judgment attached. I don't think any one of us can presume to know all of a family's reasons for these choices. However, the question put to us by the moderator -- although a little tongue in cheek -- was whether athletics was "playing a part" in the decision, not whether it was the only factor guiding the decision and not whether it was justifiable or not. The simple and, I believe, accurate answer is that athletics is a factor in the decision. Not the only factor. Not necessarily an unwarranted factor. But definitely a factor.

NCC can win NOW. Walton has some work to do and will not get the "exposure" they are searching for for by staying put
