You never split any face cards

If you google the blackjack odds site...I can't think of the name of it...it will tell you that you're odds of doubling up go up dramatically if you split 10's (face cards as well, obviously) vs a dealer showing a 3-6. Now, I've never had the conviction to do it, but when you think about it, it seems logical. I would never do it at a table with others because it wouldn't be worth the hassle (especially if the dealer backed into a soft 21), but at a table alone I may give it a whirl.

Thanks for bringing a little reality into the situation! :thumb:

Last time we were in Vegas, I played Blackjack at a $15 minimum table with $400 or so to work with. I played about four hours and basically broke even. But I had a blast doing it!

A hundred bucks at a $25 table will last you about five minutes unless you get real lucky, real fast.

Yep. A good ROT is 10 x the minimum. And round up. I would not sit down at $25 table without a $300 stake.

Thinking about checking it out tomorrow afternoon. Anyone else going over then?

^ I might. All the craps tables were $15 tables at 3pm today, that is the game I usually play. I went there to eat the buffett today and ended up playing the .25 cent slots for about 90 mins.

The buffet was okay, to me it was a little better than Empire Buffet. I liked the second plate, all from the German/ Rhineland area of the buffet. The goetta sliders were really good, had a pretzel bun. The fish was very good as well. The reuben slider was good, as well as the bratts.

You didn't love the dessert buffet?

Well, sadly I didn't try it, as desserts and alcohol don't mix too well with me, as my plan was to drink a few while at the slots.

The presentation of all of the food was very well done.

I thought the Italian area and dessert island were the highlights. A buddy of mine ate a blue-ton of sushi. Not my deal.

Yes and no. Over time your expected return will go down significantly as your giving a up solid winning hand for something that is unknown. Your best chance is against a dealer 6, but even then, you go from winning on average $70 per every $100 bet to $43 per every $100 bet, a drop of nearly 50% over the long haul. Obviously, you can do well any one time or two, but over time its a bad play. The only time to legitimately increase your expected return by splitting 10's is in 1 or two deck blackjack when the count is way in your favor and the likelihood of receiving another face is high. It's almost impossible to count cards in multi deck blackjack, so I stand by never splitting 10's in a multi deck game.

The other situation where splitting 10's make sense late in tournament play when your one hand of 20 isn't enough to overtake the leader, but 2 winning hands would be.

Let me know, I'm considering going. Plus, I like to watch someone play craps that knows what they're doing. I have an interest in the game, but admit I know zero about it.

Will do. I usually stick to the Don't Pass, Don't Come and the Field. You can also get a craps app, or they have it online too.

Playing blackjack basic strategy will put the house edge at 0% to 3%.

Try to play single deck, but those tables are rarely seen these days.

Basic strategy rules:

A) Double down with 10 or 11 against the dealers up card 2-9.

B)Stand with 12-16 against a dealers up card of 2-6.

C)Hit with 12-16 against a dealers up card of 7-8-9-10 or ace

D)Stand on 17-21 (I usually hit on soft 17,ace and 6) no possible way to bust.

E) Never take insurance.

F) THE BEST GAMBLING TIP OF ALL IS TO KNOW WHEN TO WALK AWAY!!!!!!!!

What the thieves and thugs don't realize that if they robbed the gamblers going INTO the casino, they would make more money than to wait on the very few that come out big winners,or even winners of the small time variety.

Do the dealers hit soft 17's at Horseshoe?

Birdsfan. I recall you were asking about tables? The chairs are not bolted down and can be moved, But I haven't found any shorter tables.
