My personal rule of thumb is to have about 10x the minimum bet. So, if it's a $25 minimum, you'll need to sit down with $250.

I agree you need more than $100, but $1250-$2500 seems like a little high of an estimate to me.

 

I've done a lot of reading on blackjack, tried learning to count cards even. And most of the sources I've read say that 50x your average bet is minimum needed to play comfortably and to be able to make ALL the right decisions. Think about it.....you get dealt a pair...you split so that $25 becomes $50 and then double down on one of the 2 new hands gets you to $75, over 1/4 of your bankroll could be gone in one swoop if you've only got a couple of hundred $'s on a $25 table. Realistically, you'll have to win often and early to get to a point where you can absorb a disaster, or bad run of luck (which will happen if you play for any amount of time) so you can keep playing by the book. If you get to a point where you can't double, or split when called for, you'll have virtually no chance of winning. Most sources will tell you the biggest mistake most blackjack players make is managing their bankroll and playing a game that is too rich for them.

 

That being said, I typically don't follow the rule either..I sit down with a couple hundred for a $10 table. If I catch a few breaks early, I can typically play a while and win. Which is probably why I can't make a living playing blackjack. $25 tables are definitely too rich for my blood.

I guess it depends on how long you are playing. If I am in Vegas or at a local place for a few days, etc. I guess I actually have that much on me or in the safe in the room. A lot of times in Vegas I don't stay in the same place for very long unless I am about even. and having fun at that particular table.

It's very easy to sit down with $100 at a table with a $25 minimum and play for a couple hours....At least if you know what the hell you're doing that is.

 

My play today would disagree with that. My first 9 hands with 0 wins, 1 push and 8 losses at the $25 table. Usually though you can sneak in an hour plus with $100 at a $25 table. Every table I saw over there today hit on soft 17 which decreases your odds.

 

Luckily I got hot at the Ultimate Hold Em table even though the odds are far worse than black jack

I'm surprised so many people are complaining about the minimums. It's OPENING week. Once the new appeal wears off, they'll reduce the minimum. Until then, they'll continue to reap the benefits of a new attraction...and I don't blame them.

 

$10 and $15 black jack tables were pretty normal today during lunch.

It's very easy to sit down with $100 at a table with a $25 minimum and play for a couple hours....At least if you know what the hell you're doing that is.

 

 

Whatever the minimum bet is, you should start with at least 10x that.

You realize how small the odds of that happening are? Especially when you know what you're doing? :lol:

 

You can know what you are doing and still lose 4 hands in a row.

You need more than $100 bankroll to play $25 dollar Blackjack tables. Everything I've read, says you need between 50-100x your average bet to be able to play comfortably and CORRECTLY. Remember, many situations call for you to double down or split pairs. So you need extra cash to absorb the hits you are bound to take, and times when you must increase your bets. Sure you don't have to split pairs, or double down when the situation calls for it...but then your not playing perfectly and giving the house a huge edge. Being able to sit for hours at a $25 table with only a $100 bankroll is more a result of being lucky than knowing what you are doing.

Last time we were in Vegas, I played Blackjack at a $15 minimum table with $400 or so to work with. I played about four hours and basically broke even. But I had a blast doing it!

 

A hundred bucks at a $25 table will last you about five minutes unless you get real lucky, real fast.

Question to those that have been at HS. Will they let you split Aces more than once? In Vegas, you can split them as many times as you get them, but the Indiana casinos will only allow one split. It's a scam imo. Anybody?

I think Rising Star in Indiana change it to that you can split aces up to four times.In fact , you can split any pair as many times as you want. Splitting aces not only happens a $5 dollar minimum table, it happens regularly, at ALL tables.

 

This reminds me of a guy and his son sat down at the blackjack table, guy said he was teaching his 21 year old on his 21st birthday how to play the game. His kid got a pair of 5's and his dad told him to split them against a dealer's 6. I believe the thing to do was double down and hope for two 10's against the dealers bust card. Then shortly after that, he had his son to split face cards, another no no.My experience is, if yor going to play blackjack, go to Hollywood, during the week they have 10 dollar tables and on weekends the minimum is usually 15 dollars. There are better gamblers that go to Hollywood from my experience.

 

As far as smoking goes, at Rising Star at the turnstyles ,they stopped a guy for smoking a cigarette on the way in and told him that "this is a no smoking area and they will not give him a ticket THIS TIME. So I'm in the casino playing "let it ride" and this guy smoked the dealer and everybody else out the table while he puffed his pipe for six hours, and not a word was said.

 

Did someone mention security? Hollywood and Rising Star have:thumb: many "over the hill" guards. Don't really think they could stop anybody from doing anything.Inside the casino , you can't get away with much. Just heard they arrested a hooker in the men's bathroom "doing her thing." True but funny!!! Rising Star I have NEVER seen a security person in the parking lot, just the guy driving the shuttle bus, he looks to be about 80 years old. Heard some rumors that "late night at Hollywood's parking garage" is not someplace to hang out.

 

I went to Atlantic City,NJ a while back. Two hookers on every corner and wasn't safe to leave a four block area after dark and SYTAY OFF THE BOARDWALK AT NIGHT!!!!! ( That's all I got.)

There are tables in Vegas where that is no longer true. There are also tables in Vegas where you only get 6/5 on a black jack. It drives me insane to play at those tables.

The correct play was to double down on two 5's. That's the play unless the dealer is showing a 10 or an Ace. You never split any face cards, and you pretty much double down if you hold a 9,10, or Ace against any dealer 3,4,5,6. As far as playing with "better gamblers", while playing at a table with folks that don't know what there doing is annoying, in reality, it doesn't affect your outcomes. Other players bad plays are just as likely to help you as they are to hurt you over time. While their mistake may cause you to lose a hand, that mistake sets up all your subsequent wins.

As blackjack players know, people playing badly can really make people at a table upset. At one point the dad told him to split tens against a nine. The lady next to the young man said "Son, if you had a ten inch (private part) would you cut it in half?" Dad didn't like that but the rest of us loved it!

A buddy of mine was asked to leave a table after repeatedly asking someone that question when they continued to split 20...

 

It was hysterical.
