February 17, 201313 yr Shows has worked 3 UK games this year, all UK losses, to A & M, Alabama and today to Tennessee. He obviously does not like Cal, but when you play like a bad team, you generally get bad calls. Before the game the announcers were saying that Shows has called 6 T's in the last 6 years and 3 of those were on Cal. It was obvious today that the 2 do not get along. The refs had no part in the outcome of todays game, but I do wonder why they allow Shows to continue to do UK games.
February 17, 201313 yr Everyone can't wait until next year but nothing is guaranteed. These players were 5 star as well. Some get it and some don't. Let's hope next years class gets it!! Maybe but Goodwin, Poythress, WCS and Noel aren't receiving the same hype as next year's class and they shouldn't. This year and next year don't compare. I don't care how many stars are by their names.
February 17, 201313 yr That comment shouldn't be said in public IMO. That's the problem with Cal, he always has to say something.... Why not? They're adults and they've been given every chance to get with the program. I will be glad to see them go. If Poythress isn't drafted give him das boot. They're are a lot of recruits who would kill for the chances he's been given.
February 17, 201313 yr Again it is very simple. This wasn't an overly talented recruiting class, and figuring out who the impact guys were was a chore for every staff out there. Even at the very top there wasn't much.... Rivals.com Basketball Recruiting - Bruins move up in team rankings with Parker Yet it was the very best recruiting class in the land.....LOL!
February 17, 201313 yr Nobody wins every year. It is time to be greatful for a great 3 year run. Reload and keep track of who needs a butt stomping when the cavalry arrives next fall. You have the #1 class this season as well...remember?

They're are a lot of recruits who would kill for the chances he's been given. Archie is just a dumb baskeball player, might be a great kid and a bright student, but he's a dumb basketball player. Alex just doesn't have any passion and that is something you have or you don't. Not sure how much interaction Cal has with these kids before UK but there is no way he could want them on his team at this point.
February 17, 201313 yr Rivals.com Basketball Recruiting - Bruins move up in team rankings with Parker Yet it was the very best recruiting class in the land.....LOL! A salvaged 3 series BMW on a Toyota lot this year.
February 17, 201313 yr For Cal to admit that is rather amazing. We've seen what he can do with prima donna's before and he can't coach these 2? Jones, Bledsoe, Cousins were all tough to coach and Cal got the best out of them. It's on Poythress, Harrow and especially Goodwin. That comment shouldn't be said in public IMO. That's the problem with Cal, he always has to say something.... Why shouldn't he? He's the coach and has tried every way in the world to fix this. His track record speaks for itself. I don't want to hear anyone else complaining about Polson. I have said for 3 yrs by time he is a JR he would be a good role player and people will be thankful he was at UK! PP92 said similar things. If the other players played that hard and with his heart we would be in this mess! I like Polson alot. But he's not talented enough to be a scholarship player at UK. I like seeing him do well but he's limited and is a liability. Compared to some on the team however, I'd rather out him in. I have never disliked a UK player as much as Archie and Alex. Me neither. They're reaching Kevin Durant levels for me. The levels I used to feel about Kobe were met about two weeks ago. Both are awful. If an NBA team drafts one of them in the first round Stern should automatically fold that franchise. Obviously what Cal is/was doing, works, because he hung a banner....that being said, when you get a team, where the plan doesn't work (this year)......you're going to get a lot of kids who look lost. Cal is a top shelf coach (more recruiter, but I digress), development of players, is certainly not his thing, and that is rearing it's ugly head this season. Josh Harrelson and Darius Miller say hello. Brandon Knight didnt get better? Teague don't improve greatly? Demarcus Cousins game didn't improve and change dramatically at UK? Anthony Davis didnt add anything to his game at UK? Edited February 17, 201313 yr by Cats3x I'm stupid
February 17, 201313 yr Rivals.com Basketball Recruiting - Bruins move up in team rankings with Parker Yet it was the very best recruiting class in the land.....LOL! You seem to be missing the point. Cal could have landed 7 of the top 10 and it wasn't going to be a very good team because top to bottom the 2012 class was flawed at best. Having the "top class" in 2012 was similar to being the front man for the Heart Attack Cafe. The more I think about it there was only one guy in the 2012 class that would have made a difference at any school in the country outside of Noel and that is Marcus Smart. Cal finally missed on the top PG in the country because he felt Harrow was the best answer and brought him in a year early...
February 17, 201313 yr 0-2 from the field, 0 Rebs, 0 points, 0 assists, 0 steals, 1 turnovers, 5 fouls, 18 minutes. 1 turnover and 5 fouls proves that he did something as much as he could (foul) and he did cut turnovers. Of course that was from lack of trying but hey he was not without any numbers.

I was about to post the same, a lack of experience hurts but should next years class come in with the same attitude then we will see the same results.

This post shows EXACTLY why the "one and done" isn't the answer for an entire program......makes me think that 2012 may have been lightening in a bottle.
February 17, 201313 yr This post shows EXACTLY why the "one and done" isn't the answer for an entire program......makes me think that 2012 may have been lightening in a bottle. What about 2010 and 2011. UK could have won a championship those years as well. It's difficult to win one any year no matter how much talent a team has but the last thee years UK ended up being one of the teams with the best shot of bringing home the hardware. An elite 8, Final Four and a championship in 3 years would suggest you're wrong. If the Cats struggle next year your argument may gain some steam.
February 17, 201313 yr This post shows EXACTLY why the "one and done" isn't the answer for an entire program......makes me think that 2012 may have been lightening in a bottle. In a non title season it is likely Teague and Lamb don't get back end of the 1st round grades and return. Those two alone change everything, but the banner is in the rafters and the dynamic for this team changed with only Wiltjer back with any experience. Right now Cal has the typical Top 50 type kids that need time. Will be very interesting to see how many of them return for reduced minutes on a team that will be drastically better from day 1. Veterans make the difference after all, right???
