It simply depends on the kid and how coachable he is.

So if a kid, or in this case, a large group of kids, are recruited, and then it's found out that the whole group (or majority) are "uncoachable" whose fault is that?

We'll agree to disagree then. To me it seems obvious that some guys are inclined to make the right pass or to find the open man ad some are not. I've never believed that any coach could make someone into a point guard or quarterback and that people were born with those qualities. Did someone teach LeBron James his feel for the game? Pistol Pete? How about good passing centers like Marc Gasol or Joakim Noah?

How much better can anyone get though as a passer? How much is nature and how much is nurture. I do think other coaches would have people like Goodwin attempt to pass more because they build deeper teams but Archie Goodwin would be awful this year under any coach in the country.

Cal is known for recruiting and developing PG's, now all of the sudden he forgot how? These are 18 year old kids, there is plenty of time for coaching and development.

 

Certainly Cal has to take some of the blame for the team this year but this year is the exception, not the rule.

 

There is only one coach I would even think about taking ahead of Cal to run my program right now and that is K.

I thin this is the team all UK haters had predicted and hope would eventually come to Cal's Cats. Highly ranked, selfish guys that don't want to give the ball to each other. The UK style is risk reward situation. With the four years UK has had with Cal any fan in the country would gladly take that kid of success.

 

Now we have the return of Cal can't coach. He worked miracles with the Knight- final four team IMO. If you want a high profile guy that can't coach look a Roy Williams, the classic underachiever.

I don't think there's a coach in the country that would do any better with Poythress and Goodwin than Cal has done. IMO they were simply overrated coming out of high school. All highly rated high school players don't always end up excelling at the next level. UK has had their share in the past, as has other programs. It happens sometimes.

But I will add that I had no idea that the loss of Noel would expose the talent level of the rest of Kentucky's freshmen as much as was exhibited in the Tennessee game.

Very true, it would have to be a Joe Crawford type situation. Joe always thought he was one and done and turned out he just wasn't. He had some growing pains but worked hard and had a pretty solid career at UK. I hope these guys stick around but won't be too surprised at anything that happens.
