Probably the same way Coach K has missed with guys like Chris Burgess, Shavlik Randolph, etc., etc. over the years. It happens.

I think you are misconstruing "missing" with guys having typical Freshman type seasons. These guys (Poythress and Goodwin specifically) are being asked to shoulder a burden they are unable to do. They are good, but not great at this stage of the game. Nothing more, nothing less. But what other Freshman this season are able to replicate the type of success - at least from an understanding and intensity with the game - of last year's Freshman class? Noel got it and could do it. Bazz could of done it. But that may be it. When NBA GMs are saying there would be 6 or 7 guys in next year's class that would go before anyone in this draft class that is all you need to know.

I still find it hard to fathom that UK (Coach Cal) can't find 3-4 players that want to stay more than one year and learn the system to help fill out the depth on the team. The 97 team lost Derek Anderson to injury and still advanced to the finals because they were deep.

You aren't going to find many talented kids that are looking for a place to go and be recruited over every year in the hope that by year 3 or 4 they can provide depth off the bench...

This team is so soft and mentally weak the D&D has nothing to do with it. Heck, this is the worst passing team I can ever recall. It is what it is.

Then I think you put your players in the right spots to eliminate turnovers and put them in spots where mentality is less likely to affect the outcome of the game....dribble drive is just not the answer....at least try different sets with more screening and cutting to the basket.....just simply coach to your players strengths, that's all....

After the past three years, I find the bashing of Cal laughable. He can coach. He can recruit. It is just a down year. The only guy I hope comes back out of this year's class is Willy (not including Noel in this discussion). I think Willy would improve a lot in another year with Cal and I like his attitude. Poythress, Goodwin and Harrow ... please move on. I especially want Harrow gone even if Cal needs to Rodrick Rhodes him.

 

I can't wait for UK's next game because I am tired of discussing them in this thread. It is just too ugly. :lol:
