February 17, 201313 yr Ok...this started out as a cheerleading thread, but I think we have gotten way off course, and considering what has recently been brought out regarding academics... how about this? The districts earned the recognition under the first year of the Unbridled Learning: College and Career Readiness for All accountability system. To qualify as a District of Distinction, a district had to have an overall accountability score at the 95th percentile or higher (based on achievement, gap, growth, college and career readiness and graduation rate), meet its current year Annual Measurable Objective, a 95 percent participation rate, and not have a Focus or Priority School in the district. The achievement data is based on K-PREP testing in spring 2012. The Districts of Distinction for the 2011-12 school year are: • Anchorage Independent • Beechwood Independent • Boyle County • Corbin Independent • Ft. Thomas Independent • Murray Independent • Pikeville Independent • Walton-Verona Independent

Big public schools like Dixie have an albatross tied around their neck from an "average" standpoint.
February 17, 201313 yr Private school's teachers get paid less than public school teachers. Wanna bet where the better teachers teach? False. Both have excellent teachers and bad ones as well. Some choose to go private route because money is not an issue. Some choose to go private route because there is not as much remedial learning needed, nor discipline issues. I had teachers who were consultants, worked side gigs, were alums and others just dedicated to their faith. Variety of reasons. Public does pay better but with money comes more problems.
February 17, 201313 yr I agree with you in that the best administrators can lead all aspects of the school well. In this instance, I asked about other examples of this principal's inept leadership. No one can provide any. So...even IF we accept what is said here as the principal's sole fault, this is one mistake and is not worthy of her being fired in my opinion. Again, that is IF she is to blame in the entirety which does not seem clear to me. Totally agree.

Despite me posting something that supported his overall contention I got several PMs from a poster who accused me of talking the talk and not walking the walk when it comes to supporting "my" school. Now granted, despite most people on here knowing exactly which schools I consider "my schools" he had no clue. He kept telling me what I said on this thread and I gave him several chances to find the err of his ways. He kept insisting on telling me what I posted. He even went so far as to copy and paste it for me into the PM. Still didn't have a clue as to why he was wrong. I pointed out that he was wrong and it should be easy to determine how. Reponse? "I have no doubt that I am smarter, make more money, have a more prestigious job and am more active in a school you profess to support." Dude still doesn't realize that he was copying TOG's posts to me. Beautiful.

I am going to go out on a limb and guess the person that sent you the PM, does not have a Masters Degree in Computer Science.
February 17, 201313 yr Back to the thread...I do not understand why the "punishment" for these coaches had to be firing them. What happened to reprimands or suspensions? Denying the girls the right to display their trophy is also punishment. It just seems that this whole thing should have been handled better (an understatement, I know).

Let me speak in general terms since there is so much to dispute on this particular topic as to what happened. If a boss tells you point blank "You can NOT do THIS IF....." and you then go ahead and do THAT you should be fired. Again, speaking in general terms here. If , indeed, it is deemed to be a bad mixup of communications then I'd say a lesser punishment might be in order.
February 18, 201313 yr I have a question. Do not know if it has yet to be addressed in this mess but has the 50 mile travel rule for an administrator to be with the group been consistently enforced? It is hard for me to believe that every Kenton County High School has had a certified administrator at every overnight trip over 50 miles. State competitions in golf, wrestling, etc are overnight trips. What about regular season games/tourneys that are over the 50 mile limit? Soccer teams, baseball, softball will all want to stay overnight to compete. Just wondering if this has been enforced already.

The way I read Dixiecheer's explanation of the situation is that everything was set and ready to go. Principal signed off on the EEO forms, everything. She KNEW what was going on. Why the last second change? If she gave them enough rope they would hang themselves, and she would be able to fire them? From the prior post, the coach had gotten permission to compete as an independent. So, they fulfilled the so called requirement. Then the principal goes back on the agreement? " part, I do, but sometimes situations call for a little bending of the rules. This is not like they were setting out to intentionally go against the mandate. They believed everything to be handled. I would let the girls take the mat. It was about the team, not the principal changing the rules mid stream and at the last possible moment. It almost seems like she set up this catch-22, and either way, she would win. She would either beat them down by not competing or she would take away their coaches. They were punished by losing their coaches. It worked once, so when they tried to rebel at senior night, she threatened them again. Take the finalist t shirt off or you seniors will sit. Didn't work so well this time. The entire team thumbed their noses at her and sat with the students. The old adage, respect is earned....Well, what little respect the student body might have had for this principal just went totally out the window.
