I have a football player, a basketball player, a diver, and a dance team member. For four sports for my 2 kids I maybe spent $1500. That is for spirit packs, fees, and fundraising. How in the world in a public school can a kid be expected to pay $3500 to be part of the group.

 

My daughter is a varsity cheerleader and every time I turn around it is several hundred more dollars. I don't have a grand total but I think $3500 is a fair estimate. Frankly, it is a bleeping joke.

Do you expect the schools to pay the $3500? That is $70,000 for a squad of 20 girls. Where are schools going to get that? Is the National Competition a true national competition? How can Ryle, Cooper and Dixie be there? What do you pay for other than getting the kids to Nationals?

Your correct, you have the right to complain and complain but until someone who thinks like you do runs for the BOE, what do you do?

 

I mean far too many want things to happen in their way of thinking but they want someone else to be that person to sit in the chair! As I have said, easy to complain while not sitting in the chair, hard to sit in the chair and be the one that has to please everyone!

 

Bottom line is I am paying for a service and have expectations as to how that service is delivered. The Guru has a thread where he complains about the pizza delivery service he received. It's crazy to say he shouldn't complain unless he is willing to sit in that seat.

When my daughter was 4 or 5 I told her I'd buy her whatever sports equipment she'd need as long as she didn't want to be a cheerleader. Great investment.

 

Cheerleading does nothing for me but I will be the first to admit those girls work really hard as compared to when I was in school.

To my opinion, I think cheerleading has gotten out of hand cost wise. Way too many trips, gym fees, multiple uniforms, etc. I think cheerleading has become more a club sport.

But there are plenty of Pizza places to go eat at if your not happy with the one Guru went to. How many BOE in Kenton County? Ludlow, Covington, Erlanger?

 

If you want to compare eating/buying pizza to educating your children, then I totally understand your problem. Me, I got involved and worked not in the public schools system but in my Parish School and her HS! She got a outstanding education, I had a good time and she and I were the better for it.

 

I guess I am a type of person who doesn't want to reply on others to take care of my own!

 

Get off you duff, get out and if you don't want to run than at least support a candidate to whom you feel good about. Support him/her by knocking on doors, by helping send out mailers, or just talking to groups of people you know about your BOE choice. Far too many of US what to leave it up to others, because we pay taxes and it's their job. No, it's your job to do the best for your children, so if you find that person, then for your children sake, work/help that person to get elected!

The Principal has done too much damage to keep her job. That part seems pretty clear to me. Obviously she is not capable of being a leader.

 

The thing I'm most interested in seeing happen as we move forward is a change on the BOE. Their leadership and direction has been very subpar; from the decisions to not allow Dixie and Scott to travel down state on a day that was not bad for travel (2 Cincinnati schools and Bishop Brossart made it down with no problems); and now this new, goofy administration rule. These are our kids, our schools, that are paid for with our tax money, and we need to demand better performance from these bozos at the BOE. They seem to be very out of touch with reality and not creative enough in their problem solving.

 

Can you outline the damage that she has done? I assume you mean something besides this one non-educational issue.

She signed the forms, she withheld an administrator who was all set to go down, she blundered again when she told the girls they couldn't wear the competition t-shirts at the Senior night game and she messed up also by not allowing the trophy in the school. She has not handled any of this in a professional manner and has brought embarrassment to the school and the County. The lawsuit is on the way as well. I'd be willing to bet a large sum of money that she is either fired or "resigns" under pressure before the end of the year. She is not liked by, nor respected by students and parents. Hard to be a Principal under those circumstances.

However, unless there is a dispute over what was actually said this case is pretty black and white. If it was said that you CANNOT go and compete as Dixie then it's very clear as in crystal clear IMO.

 

I grew up with a dad who was a Marine and a police officer. I learned at a very young age that I do not have to LIKE any rules but I do have to follow them.

 

Someone earlier said that the principal made it gray by saying they could go as an independent. I disagree. That's black and white to me. Again, if this was truly said then it's on the cheer coach for not verifying ahead of time that being independent was an option. Maybe they did and didn't like the answer and took a chance. They lost.

I've already stated that she may have screwed this up and history says basketball also had an issue after signing a contract with LexCath that they had to bail on. In no way am I defending her. I'll take your word for it regarding the issues you mentioned as you obviously are in that community and I'm not.

 

I've qualified a few of my beliefs with "IF this is true" so I'm covered to an extent. A cheer mom above says Dixie entered as an independent. If so then it's squarely on the principal. If it's not true then it's on the coaches.
