My daughter is a member of the Dixie cheer team and hopefully I can answer many of the questions posed here. The new administrator (principal or asst. principal) rule was passed at the beginning of the school year. The cheerleaders had been practicing and raising money since May. We were told in September we would not be permitted to go without an administrator. One was found. Then the principal backed off and said we could not go because she needed that administrator in the building. There are 4 administrators at Dixie yet she cannot do without one for 1 1/2 days! The trip was Thursday evening through Monday morning. After a nonproductive meeting with parents she said we could go independent but not use "high school" and suggested "Dixie all stars" which shows how little she knows about cheer because then we would've had to attend an all star national not a high school national. Our coaches contacted UCA and were told we could compete independent although they didn't exactly know what that meant and we, the parents, purchased an independent insurance policy to cover the girls in case of injury. We went ahead with fundraising as planned and everything was signed off by the principal and all of which was titled UCA high school nationals. The parents at Dixie paid for the entire trip and also pay for everything related to cheer. The total out of pocket for 1 year on dixie cheer team is about $3500! The school pays nothing and does not own our uniforms. Upon arrival in FL all credentials and programs were listed as Dixie Heights High School, we did not enter this way nor was UCA going to go back and reprint everything for over 4000 cheerleaders. The coaches did what was asked and they have proof of entry, but the principal knew all along it was a high school national and that high school age teams would be attending and signed off on each girl's Educational Enhancement Form. Our cheer was changed to delete the words high school and we only used the words Dixie heights. We never referred to ourselves as being with the high school. This has been a witch hunt front the get go for our coaches and unfortunately now our Children will pay the price. Instead of embracing the good Kenton county has chosen to stick with the bad publicity.

 

Are the parents considering legal action against the Principal and/or school?

If the comments from Dixiecheer are are the whole story, sounds like the cheerleading coaches, students and parents have the upper hand in this one.

So they did not represent themselves as a high school from Kenton County. The only mention of them being from a high school was the event program. They did not use any school resources for the trip. The principal signed off on this being an "educational" trip meaning it is excused. That also means that it is no different than a kid taking a college visit and missing a day.

 

 

So what is the problem?

Their leadership and direction has been very subpar; from the decisions to not allow Dixie and Scott to travel down state on a day that was not bad for travel (2 Cincinnati schools and Bishop Brossart made it down with no problems); and now this new, goofy administration rule. These are our kids, our schools, that are paid for with our tax money, and we need to demand better performance from these bozos at the BOE. They seem to be very out of touch with reality and not creative enough in their problem solving.

Can you outline the damage that she has done? I assume you mean something besides this one non-educational issue.

Your reply is like what I heard last night at my son's basketball game. There were parents complaining about the refs calls and he asked them if they want to do the job.

 

If you are going to take a position of leadership you are accountable for what you do. As a parent of children who are being governed by the leadership of the BOE, and as a tax payer paying their salary I have every right to evaluate and be critical of their performance.

The girls have been sticking it to her. They walked off the floor at senior night and out on their Finalists tshirts and sat with the student cheer section. So proud of them for sticking up for what they believe in.

 

They need to no show the rest of the season. If the basketball team won the region again, you can't go spend the night at the state tourney anyway. And think of all the negative publicity if Dixie told the khsaa the roads were too bad and you couldn't play at Rupp that day!

Cheerleaders role at a basketball game is to cheer. Nothing else. "Sticking it" the principal is an immature decision that some adult should say "I get it but it's not right."

Out of this entire explanation, the bolded what catches my eye. Are you serious?

 

I have a football player, a basketball player, a diver, and a dance team member. For four sports for my 2 kids I maybe spent $1500. That is for spirit packs, fees, and fundraising. How in the world in a public school can a kid be expected to pay $3500 to be part of the group.

Your correct, you have the right to complain and complain but until someone who thinks like you do runs for the BOE, what do you do?

 

I mean far too many want things to happen in their way of thinking but they want someone else to be that person to sit in the chair! As I have said, easy to complain while not sitting in the chair, hard to sit in the chair and be the one that has to please everyone!

So they aren't allowed to display their trophy because they went independent, but the coaches were fired for not going independent of the school. Which is it? Doesn't she know you always wait until Friday to fire people it gives 2 days for emotions to calm down.
