From what I can gather from the article and the posts on here it seems the trip was planned, agreed to, and copacetic until this new policy was passed just before the trip. I'm not sure how a high school team goes about competing "independently" but it also seems they were probably registered as Dixie before this policy went into effect. At any rate, it seems like a non-problem that could have been easily solved before the trip, so I'm guessing there are more behind the scenes politics going on over there than we are privy to.

IMO, no. Principal should've contacted the tournament asking how the team was registered. Principal should've asked the coaches if they had alternate uniforms to compete in. Heck, she could've forced them to leave their uniforms at school prior to leaving for the tournament. Aren't uniforms school property?

 

Also, for tournaments like this, is the athletic director involved?

 

I would think something like this would've been planned for months in order to help pay for the trip. It sounds like neither side put much effort into it ensuring everything was being done according to school policy.

What a joke. If you want to know why you see coaching turnover in the masses across the state, in every sport, it's because of crap like this.

Wait till you find out who KCBOE defines as an administrator for trips like this........you will see why there wasnt one available.

 

I'm guessing it's not a teacher. I'm sure there are plenty of teachers willing to take a week long trip.

I believe there was an issue like this involving the SK Wrestling team taking a trip to Ohio. The discipline in that case was not nearly as severe.

Let me state that I'm not being "Pro-Dixie" here. It seems like there is a lot of stuff going on either at Dixie or the school board that makes one scratch their head. However, it's just like the rule that prevented Dixie from going to Scott County. You can disagree all you want and probably be right.

Why wasn't an administrator on the trip? Why was this policy drafted? Why doesn't the BOE answer? If I was a parent in Kenton County the first question I have for the board is how are they going to handle the $585,000 KISBT assessment? Perhaps then they might be inclined to answer?

No a whole lot in the article as far as background..................but she was flat out insubordinate. When they got to the competition and found out they could not compete as an independent a phone call to the principal might have been in order to explain the situation and they would have had to just do what she said at that point. But to blatantly be insubordinate....well.......you get what you ask for.

Can't disagree. Just seems like there is more to the story. And I'm not saying that it would be in the coach's favor either. But it just strikes me as bizarre that adults/professionals couldn't resolve this "problem."

The big difference here is this is your main job, your main income source. For these 2, it's side cash. They did what they thought was right for the girls, and they're suffering the consequences. It sounds like the parents and cheerleaders are the ones making an issue out of it.

If they chose to disregard rules because it's a "side job" then I'd question their ability to be coaches.

Some really solid points. I was wondering if, in fact, the coaches called and/or clarifyed the rule about being an independent team before they even left. THAT definitely should have taken place. You just do not show up that far away from home without all your ducks in a row.

I just heard that in addition to the cheer coaches, the dance coach and wrestling coaches were also fired today. This is from the inside and I cannot confirm.

 

I've also heard that the cheer coach firing was done by the Principal independent of the KCBOE... did she overstep her bounds? Again, this is whatt I'm hearing from folks close to the situation.

 

 

Anyway you slice it, something really goofy is going on at Dixie. Its a mess now and has potential to get worse.
