February 18, 201313 yr All this talk about Dixie's academics vs other schools like CCH, NDA, etc is laughable. Those school are no better academically. Yes, their average test scores may be better, because students going to those schools have to pass a minimum standards entrance test. Public schools like Dixie have to take all the kids who are eligible to attend. We have kids who struggle with all kinds of issues, including poverty. I sent my kid to Villa for one year... was not impressed with the difference between public vs Villa. I have a Masters degree, my wife has a Masters degree and we are more than capable of understanding and evaluating academics and those private schools are not impressive academically. Keep wasting your hard earned money folks. Not to mention that the easiest degree to get is an education degree. Heck one semester is student teaching and then 9 credit hours of another semester is your practicum. Throw in the fact that most do not need take anything other that an elementary level math class or basic algebra as your math prerequisite to graduate. That is one reason why teachers salaries are so low, the degrees are easy to get...... :popcorn: For the record my son is currently a Special Ed Teacher major.

February 19, 201313 yr But sports teams, like basketball, football or baseball do??? Want your cake? Actually sports such as Football and Baseball etc. also does not always show the best. Bad coaching can keep a very talented team from winning. A great player doesn't mean your team is the best. etc. There are many factors that play into "being the best" etc. Your example of an academic teams results meaning that school is the smartest would be like saying because Conner has Drew Barker playing for them they are the best team in the area. For you to prove your point then you would have to show that everyone in that school are as smart as the smartest individual on your Gov's cup team.

No administrator made themselves or was allowed to make themselves available to go with the team. 2. Option given to go and compete as independent. 3. Competition not open to independents, must compete as a high school. 4. Parents and students had fundraised for a full year and did not want to give up the money nor lose out on the experience. 5. Coaches told there would be consequences if they were insubordinate. 6. Team goes, competes, and coaches face the music upon their return. Did the group consider going without their coaches? The coaches at this point are basically chaperones. They have done all the work to get the girls ready for competition. No way the principal can tell a group of students and parents they can not go to Florida for a weekend. If the coaches stayed home they would not have been involved and thus not insubordinate. Yes, I know they worked hard to to make the trip happen, but this option would have saved their jobs and given them time to figure it out for next year.

Per my wife, Coaches are credentialed and are the ones that are responsible for pretty much everything to do with the team. A lot goes on behind the scenes, especially in the warm up area prior to taking the floor. Names and info is required so far ahead of the competition to ensure ID's and such are correct. I have no idea when the ultimatum was issued, but probably too late to make any changes. As per keeping their jobs, I don't believe the pay (and someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) is very substantial. I'm not even sure if the Asst. coach receives anything pay wise. The HC was not a faculty member anyway.

I would think that as soon as the girls put on those Dixie Heights cheerleading uniforms, they were representing the school whether they intended to or not; therefore the principal now has jurisdiction over the situation. It all sounds bogus to me, btw.
