Why are NCC basketball players not playing football?

Featured Replies

Ouch that hurt! Frankie was between Jimmy and Nicky. Only one that didn't play basketball. He played football and baseball.

Yeah I had totally forgot about him................

I guess someone was advised not to post in this thread any longer.....

I would say it was a smart move on his part!

Grant is premiere bc of the sets that he runs to put his bigs in position to make plays passing or scoring. This is after years of guard oriented play at NewCath. Additionally, you guys bettervh

Are you still considering Grant a "premiere" coach? A "premiere" coach would have left Ben Weyer in the game, at least given him more minutes, to keep the Holmes bigs from hanging in the paint because Ben is an outside threat. This would have opened the middle up more for the inside / outside game, McDonald to do his work. Grant made zero adjustments and/or changes from the last game. The Holmes Coaches were calling out every "set" that NCC ran. A program that has all the talent that NCC has had for the last 3 years should not lose as Grant has in the regional tournament. Kidz are gong to miss shots, have turnovers, etc. but a coach must also be able to make adjustments throughout the game to put his kidz/team in the best possible position to win the ball game when the clock hits zero...this has not happened in the big games Grant has coached. Grants sets did not work the second time around due to his lack of making changes and adjustments based upon game film, scouting, etc.

Grant is a good coach but the better coach is Booher. He proved it last night plus he has a sweet 16.

Wasn't NCC the smallest school in the Region again? People need to take a step back and realize getting to two regional final and a first round loss to maybe the best team in the region and a top team in the state is not all that bad for a small school coach.

The intent of my post is not to imply that Grant is a bad coach, but I'm not buying the small school excuse on this one. Compare the talent NCC has had over the past few years and it exceeds that of the large majority of the bigger schools in the region.

How much talent was really there? How many D1, D2, players in recent years? Geisler (who was also a football player) and who else?

Now that the basketball postseason is over for NCC, I wonder if any of the basketball only guys in the past are going to start showing up for off season football conditioning? Does NCC even have spring football?

If they ever want to get a state championship ring, they better.

Not smart to wake a sleeping dog. Guess they don't teach you highlands people smarts over there.

Your assumptions are awesome. Your change was to put Weyer in to open up the outside? He did hit a 3, but you want to rely on that, not to mention that he's not ready to guard Holmes yet. The only way to open this game up is for Schulte and Seibert to hit mid-range jumpers. It didn't happen, and Holmes could pack it in. Also, you say the last three years... you truly believe that NewCath more talented than Dixie in '11? They put them in OT. Last year, NewCath shot, what 25% for the game against Boone? Did Grant run out and trip Brady on the way to a break away layup that would have tied the game and completed a stellar comeback? On the ensuing defensive possession, did he tip a rebound out to an open 3 pt. shooter who buried it for a 5pt. swing? It is a game played by kids. Some times they hit open shots, sometimes they don't. Things happen, but if you think that some other coach off the street has the magical solution, then I don't know what to tell you. Grant being premiere is not my opinion. I don't know enough about basketball to say that. That is the opinion of many coaches that I know.

And he's been in the regional finals 2xs and 30-3 this year, winning a state tournament that contained over 48% of the schools in the state. People just love to complain.

I think they have won a few..................:ohbrother:
