Why are NCC basketball players not playing football?

Featured Replies

NCC has a fine basketball team and winning the All A Classic is an awesome accomplishment but the All A Classic is nothing more than a really nice mid-season tournament. The All A Classic is NOT a state championship.

Are you OK with 6 football classes? So you can have 6 football state champs, but only 1 Basketball?

Is there 2 or 3 State champs in Track? I understand the KHSAA does not recognize the All A, but they should review all classifications for all sports.

It is a state title for small schools that consists of 1A, 2A, 3A schools. Just ask the Chairman of the tourney and we all know who started the All A Classic State Tournament. Great job by those young men and coaches up on the hill keep on reaching those goals. Want to ask LawnBoy a Q what do you think the All A Classic is since you are a NewCath fan is it a State Championship. Would love to know your input on it.

If you choose to look at this as a state championship then you maybe you should decline to participate in the 9th region tournament and compete for the opportunity to go to Rupp where the REAL state championship is played and recognized. Why should NC get to double dip? Can Trinity play football in the AA division?

In the end, it's a great accomplishment but I don't think you will find many on here or anywhere else that will consider the All A a true state championship for basketball.

Never said it was a true State Championship it's a State Championship for small schools. So is football a true state championship in 1A, 2A,3A,4A,5A,6A. Come on have you watch the playoffs in football in Highschool first 2 to 3 games in playoffs are blowouts. Yes it's awesome to win a state championship in football but it is way easier to do so. Ask Beechwood NewCath Highlands. Winning the All A state in Basketball is way harder then winning a 2A state football. IMO

The All-A is not just another tournament. It is a tournament of the 120 smallest schools in the state of Kentucky and broken into normal regions. It is a small school State Championship.

I don't think they are laying claim to being THE state champion of Kentucky. They are laying claim to being the small school state champion of Kentucky, which they proved on the court. I am not sure why it is so important for people to take that away from them.

Winning the All A in basketball is a much tougher and more impressive feat than winning a 2A football championship. To put this in perspective, if Ohio football had only 35 teams per class like Kentucky, they would have 20 or more classes in football.

See this whole thing is stupid. This isn't the forum to raise this question. The good thing about NewCath is that you can approach the coaches and aske them the questions yourself. No reason to air dirty laundary, complain, or question things like this. This is a public forum for opinion, but just b/c you can, doesn't mean that you should. If you have concerns about why a certain player is not playing football, go straight to the horse's mouth (pun intended). No reason for derisive forums like this. I always felt that NewCath was better than this and represented more than this. I usually saw griping about coaches and creating tension the role of parents at certain other schools.

Great post. Welcome to BGP

No it is not a state title for anyone.

And I already spoke with Lawnboy on this issue, he agrees with me, it is a nice tourney but it is NOT a state title.

And of course the Chairman would like to pump his tourney up...

To answer your questions. I am okay with six classes in football but after several years to reflect on it I think it is too many. I think there should be at least two classes in basketball but I understand economics dictate that is never going to happen. Not to be arrogant but does it really matter what happens in Track? I disagree, I do not think the KHSAA should recognize the All A.

If 120 small schools in KY get together and all claim the sky is red, is the sky red? No, it is not a state championship, it is the All A Classic.

No one is taking anything away from any school. What we are doing is pointing out not to overstate ones credentials. You really do kids a disservice when you do this kind of thing. What happens if they embellish their resume later in life? They don't get to tell that possible employer that they learned how to frame the facts from their high school.

And your football analogy is just plain stupid. Apples to oranges.

IMO, the days of 3 sport athletes are over so why should any NCC basketball players play football? Just because someone on BGP thinks they should?!

How many basketball players play football at Brossart? Maybe 2?

NCC will be fine but thanks for your concern.

I think the All "A" Tourney is a VERY IMPRESSIVE title to claim, having to win 7 or 8 games (including Regionals) to lay claim to the title requires a nice run and playing your best. There are quite a few top quality teams in the field every year. I don't view it as a state title in the way that the Sweet Sixteen would be. It is simply a very nice "in season" tourney made up of the 120 something smallest schools in the state and the winner is the All "A" Classic State Tournament Champ.

This is about the best explanation............It is a very impressive tournament to win...............

I would love for Lawn Boy to weigh in.

Personally I would be very disappointed if LB felt it was a "nice tournament", given his support of NCC.

Lawn Boy?

Guru - if you want I can let you know when the STATE Championship ring ceremony will be held to passout the STATE Championship rings to NCC for the small school STATE tile.

Too late on LawnBoy, he already did and you are going to be disappointed.

And if Newport Central Catholic wants to have a sky is red ceremony that is their business.

Can someone explain to me why they care so much if it's called a "state championship" or not? What's the big deal? Why are we trying to diminish the accomplishments of a bunch of high school kids?
