Why are NCC basketball players not playing football?

Featured Replies

Because I know Money won't sleep until I weigh in......

To me it's the same as NCC's football team winning the 2A state championship. They played a tournament filled with teams from the entire state that were of similar size.

Wear that ring with pride.

It is not sanctioned by the KHSAA, but it is a state championship - the All 'A' Classic state championship. Argue the merits if you will, but my daughter's golf team at Villa won the state title in 2007 and a banner hangs in the gym that says "2007 All A Classic State Champions." Doesn't diminish anything and it doesn't supercede what anyone accomplishes at the KHSAA all-school level.

I guess with the qualifer "All A Classic" in front of State Champions, the KHSAA doesn't have a problem with it. As long as that phrase is used in front of State Champions to clarify what championship was won then no one should have a problem with it.

On another note, whose picture was that they put on your column in the "New Enquirer" this morning? That is the biggest smile I have ever seen on your face. I almost didn't recognize you. :D

I got a Q for you? Who did NewCath beat in football this past year that was any good. From my understanding they didn't. Until you play teams like Highlands up here I wouldn't be talking about your little 2 A State Championship that the football team has won. Now when you play Highlands and Beat them then you can say whatever you want.

When Highlands beats Trinity they can say whatever want. Same situation. SOME of you Highlands fans, and it is a vast minority, just can't stand the fact that the school

on the hill is having some success. The reason they have classes in football is because schools like NCC aren't expected to compete with larger schools like Highlands any more that Highlands is expected to compete with Trinity. Get over it.

NCC has a fine basketball team and winning the All A Classic is an awesome accomplishment but the All A Classic is nothing more than a really nice mid-season tournament. The All A Classic is NOT a state championship.

It isn't simply because KY. continues to be one of 2 states that don't classify basketball, yet has 6 classes in football with about 35 teams in each class. Semantics, that's the only difference.

It most definitely is a State Tournament to those coaches and players. And us fans.

Thanks for the suggestion blueandgold. Sometimes threads just morph and this is one of those sometimes.

And for the record, it is not battle of two opinions, it is fact, and the side that doesn't have fact on their side wants to make it a battle of opinions.

GURU I almost always respect your opinions on everything as being even handed and sensible. I think you have gone astray here and are bound and determined to keep expressing your point as FACT. It is beneath you. You are diminishing your credibility as a reasonable person in my opinion. Let it go.

I think NCC had their sights set on winning the 9th region. That was their real goal. At least I think it was. Is the All A ring a consolation prize? Would they have bought the All A ring if they won the 9th region? I have enough respect for their program to think winning the 9th region should be their goal every year. I wouldn't put much emphasis on the All A. I could be wrong, but IMO, most players could care less about winning that All A thing.

It is obvious you have never talked to any players who have won an "ALL A TOURNEY" in any sport at any school. If you think for one minute they COULDN'T ( term I think you were referring to) care less you are WAY off base.

By the way, the rings were ordered long before the 9th region tourney.

You're correct. I don't spend enough time thinking about it to bother to ask. Just as i wouldn't ask them about their ring for winning the Lloyd tourney. Same significance IMO.

At the Holy Cross graduation ceremonies last year they made sure to refer to the 3 (yes 3) State Championships that class had won. 2A Football, Boys All-A Basketball, and Girls All-A Volleyball.

They should recognize them if it means something to them. That doesn't mean the rest of the state cares. Im not demeaning what they feel they accomplished. Lets say they beat better teams in the Lloyd tourney. To me, that makes it a higher accomplishment.

Then why are you so intent on degrading it. For something of no interest to you it seems you have wasted a lot of your time commenting on it.

Jealousy is only making excuses for talent that others don't have.

Thanks for the compliment.

And on this issue several of us just have to agree to disagree.

I was drawn into the discussion. If I'm not on here, I'd never give it a thought.

Correct, but over 40% of the state does, and for me, that is a very significant number.
