Why are NCC basketball players not playing football?

Q for you Lawnboy? if its just a mid season tourney why are they getting rings that say State Champs. Ashland Tourney they won this year was a mid season tourney are they getting rings for that also. And also when they have the ring ceremony will you be present there and tell the kids and coaches congrats but this really wasn't a State Championship it was a mid season tourney don't count.

My view of this tourney in know way is to diminish the Breds accomplishment of winning this tournament. Plus, there is no way you can put All "A" Classic State Tournament Champs on a ring, so I have ZERO problem with the rings saying State Champs.

I would love to be present when they receive their rings and give them their just due, I'm extremely proud of their accomplishments in this tournament and the season as a whole. The Breds are the 2013 All "A" Classic State Tournament Champs.

I don't view it as a state title in the way that the Sweet Sixteen would be, that's all.

From the paper: FRANKFORT - When the buzzer sounded Sunday, giving the Newport Central Catholic boys' basketball team a 75-54 Touchstone Energy All "A" Classic state championship victory over Bardstown, Thoroughbreds coach Grant Brannen received a hug from his father.

Another quote from the paper: FRANKFORT - An uncharacteristic hot hand from the perimeter helped the Bishop Brossart girls' basketball team get off to a good start in its first-round Touchstone Energy All 'A' Classic State Tournament game against Murray and then some characteristic calm under pressure helped it hold on to win.

State Championship victory!

Sorry we don't agree, it still doesn't diminish their accomplishment.

They still counting those slow pitch softball "state" titles when only 7 teams were still playing slow pitch and 6 of them were inside the 275 beltway? Were those "state" titles too?

It's not a big deal. If they want to give out rings for winning that small tourney, then that's their choice. I wouldn't particularly want it, but if they do it's their option. No one is thinking they won the Sweet 16. I don't think they're trying to fool anybody. They did win the All A and AA Classic and want to celebrate it. Although it should probably say "All A Champs".

Whatever. Your answers are always on the fence. You either think its a state championship or you don't.

My point was should all sports be treated equally regarding how many classifications? 1, 3 or 6 classes for all sports? Not sure why it should vary by sport. Not enough classes for Basketball and too many for football IMO

Agree 100% on all points.

Winning the all A basketball state is much harder to do than winning one of the 6 football classifications.

As far as your assessment about the game, you are way off. Zack has been a solid point gaurd this year and his performance against Holmes was no different. Zack is one of the best PT guards in all NKY and I glad he is a Thoroughbred!

I don't disagree with you about his talent.

Whether these kids come out for football or not, the football team will compete for a 2A championship and the basketball team will be very good next year.

Does New Cath have a strong class coming up for basketball next year, if so how many of the young men play football?

^ Is that you walking along the fence?

Looks to me like the All-A founders can call it whatever they want since it is not sanctioned by the KHSAA and therefore no one can disagree. Is Miss Universe really the best in all the universe? Is the World Series winner really the best in all the world? They can call it the All-A World Championship or call it the State of KY small school championship or the KY Invitational State Championship or whatever they want and that is what it is.

Since it is not sanctioned by the KHSAA I assume they would run into a problem if they called it a state championship which is probably why they call it the All A Classic.

Why? The KHSAA has rites to "Sweet Sixteen". I don't think they have rites to "State Championship" or "Touchstone All-A State Championship".

Sweet 16 is a licensing issue and I have heard, don't know for the sure, even the NCAA pays them for use of the term Sweet 16.

I think if the All A Classic used the term State Championship as a title it would be "frowned upon" for lack of better words by the KHSAA because it is not a state championship and referring to it as such would give the appearance that it is a KHSAA sanctioned state championship.
