Can someone explain to me why they care so much if it's called a "state championship" or not? What's the big deal? Why are we trying to diminish the accomplishments of a bunch of high school kids?

 

I am not trying to diminish anything, all I am doing is pointing out the FACT that the All A Classic is NOT a state championship. It is FACT.

I would love for Lawn Boy to weigh in.

 

Personally I would be very disappointed if LB felt it was a "nice tournament", given his support of NCC.

Guru - if you want I can let you know when the STATE Championship ring ceremony will be held to passout the STATE Championship rings to NCC for the small school STATE tile.

 

Just because my opinion differs, don't be dissapointed. This doesn't mean my loyalty or love for all that is NewCath is waivering. My support for Newport Catholic and it's students, athletics, alum, teachers, coaches........is still going full force.

To answer your questions. I am okay with six classes in football but after several years to reflect on it I think it is too many. I think there should be at least two classes in basketball but I understand economics dictate that is never going to happen. Not to be arrogant but does it really matter what happens in Track? I disagree, I do not think the KHSAA should recognize the All A.

 

My point was should all sports be treated equally regarding how many classifications? 1, 3 or 6 classes for all sports? Not sure why it should vary by sport. Not enough classes for Basketball and too many for football IMO

If 120 small schools in KY get together and all claim the sky is red, is the sky red? No, it is not a state championship, it is the All A Classic.

 

No one is taking anything away from any school. What we are doing is pointing out not to overstate ones credentials. You really do kids a disservice when you do this kind of thing. What happens if they embellish their resume later in life? They don't get to tell that possible employer that they learned how to frame the facts from their high school.

I think the All "A" Tourney is a VERY IMPRESSIVE title to claim, having to win 7 or 8 games (including Regionals) to lay claim to the title requires a nice run and playing your best. There are quite a few top quality teams in the field every year. I don't view it as a state title in the way that the Sweet Sixteen would be. It is simply a very nice "in season" tourney made up of the 120 something smallest schools in the state and the winner is the All "A" Classic State Tournament Champ.

The Touchstone Energy All "A" Classic is a statewide basketball tournament for the smallest 125 high schools within the commonwealth of Kentucky based on student enrollment for the grades 9-12 as verified through Kentucky Department of Educations records on October 1st of each year. The winners from the 16 boys’ regional tournaments along with the 16 girls’ regional tournament champions will advance to the statewide tournament held in Frankfort.

 

Of the 123 Class "A" schools that are members of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association, 121 boys' teams and 122 girls' teams have committed to participate in this year's Touchstone Energy All "A" Basketball Classic.

 

In 2011-2012, the All "A" Classic will provide over 15,000 smaller school students wit the opportunity to actively participate in a statewide volleyball competition, a scholarship program, an art competition, statewide baseball tournament, statewide fast pitch softball tournament, and a cheerleading competition.

 

The Touchstone Energy All "A" Classic strengthened its commitment to academics and education in 1996-97 by providing scholarship opportunities open to all students of Class "A" schools. The number of scholarships increased to a total of $70,000 for 2002-2003. In addition, other scholarships are presented annually as part of the statewide art competition.
