Your assumptions are awesome. Your change was to put Weyer in to open up the outside? He did hit a 3, but you want to rely on that, not to mention that he's not ready to guard Holmes yet. The only way to open this game up is for Schulte and Seibert to hit mid-range jumpers. It didn't happen, and Holmes could pack it in. Also, you say the last three years... you truly believe that NewCath more talented than Dixie in '11? They put them in OT. Last year, NewCath shot, what 25% for the game against Boone? Did Grant run out and trip Brady on the way to a break away layup that would have tied the game and completed a stellar comeback? On the ensuing defensive possession, did he tip a rebound out to an open 3 pt. shooter who buried it for a 5pt. swing? It is a game played by kids. Some times they hit open shots, sometimes they don't. Things happen, but if you think that some other coach off the street has the magical solution, then I don't know what to tell you. Grant being premiere is not my opinion. I don't know enough about basketball to say that. That is the opinion of many coaches that I know.

When did Schulte ever hit a mid range jumper all year? Nick did not shoot consistently all year, played great defense 99% of the time. This was probably the worst performance out of Schulte all year, unfortunatley Grant did NOT leave Weyer in the game to help spread out the Holmes Defense to open up that Inside / Outside Game Grant established this year! Weyer can guard the Holmes players, Shulte is the one that struggled with that...foul trouble. Back to the adjustments, can you honestly admit that Grant has made adjustments throughout games to adjust to what the other team was doing on offense and/or defense? Name them! NCC ran the same sets all year, regardless if the chosen player was open or not...the back door alley oop pass...the entire region knew when that was going to take place wheter Nick was open or not...and even when he was hobbled in the All A. Now you gotta admit, your best defender coming off a severe ankle injury and you run that play to him, pretty stupid if you ask me!

 

Regarding last year regional final, McDonald should have been involved in the game so much earlier than he was. Grant had not quite figured out the inside / outside game at that time...just launch up the three pointer all night. Unfortunately Brady was worn out...felt bad for that kid! I never said nor do I believe a person can walk off the street and coach the team...I do believe Grant needs to be smarter and/or improve his basketball IQ...not worry about pleasing certain families so much, etc. I can give him a starting point, maybe he needs to begin with getting more up and coming younger coaches involved like Ken Collopy. There are a number of lifers sitting on the bench, give a pat on the rear to a kid here and there...that is about it. Did you notice how involved the entire coaching staff is at Holmes during games??? That takes place because they all work to prepare the team, watch film, and ensure all players are constantly working on the fundamentals of basketball...not scrimmaging everyday in practice! Change is not a bad thing, the NewCath family seems to be afraid to make changes...it needs to begin with evaluating what each of the 6-7 coaches bring to the table to improve the skill set of the NCC Team Players...all good guys, but the game has definitely passed many of them up.

 

Mexi, love your NewCath Spirit and Pride, sometimes it is hard for individuals like you to trully evaluate, look at the big picture, and admit when change is needed. Not saying Grant needs to go, but he needs to evaluate his staff to make changes, bring some new energy and blood to the table to get the best out of his talented teams that he continues to have. Maybe Grant is tired like McDonald was at the end of the game on Tuesday!

Your kid must of played basketball at NewCath under these coaches or you have a great insider that tells you all this stuff. 30 and 3 this year won the All A state. They lost to Holmes who is pretty good and they didn't play good at all an lost by 5. I think they will be even better next year then they were this year. If you had a bad experience at NewCath that's fine we understand just come out and say it.

How much talent was really there? How many D1, D2, players in recent years? Geisler (who was also a football player) and who else?

 

I was talking about comparing the talent on NCCs team to the talent on other schools in the area? Do you think there are any basketball factories around here churning out DI & DII talent every year?

And he's been in the regional finals 2xs and 30-3 this year, winning a state tournament that contained over 48% of the schools in the state. People just love to complain.

Also, I have never ripped on the players or the coaches. I was at the regional game, so I do watch them play. One of the reasons they lost the game was guard play. No disrespect to z. Pangallo, he's simply a sophomore and was overmatched and it seemed like the game was a little fast for him. He has a very bright future as a high school point guard for NCC. This team will be better next season than it was this year and he will be a major reason. I agree with some of the other people's statements about the upperclassmen not stepping up. As good as they will be next season, they still won't win state, it's that simple.

Is grant a good coach? I think he does alright, I don't agree with influencing kids not to play other sports, but he seems to handle the game alright. Here's what you need to understand, in high school, the kids make the coach. It's not like you can get out and bring players you want into your system like college. He has had some very good players and has some good talent coming up.

There are only 40 or so teams in 2A football. The All-A champion in football would have been most likely been Mayfield.

As far as your assessment about the game, you are way off. Zack has been a solid point gaurd this year and his performance against Holmes was no different. Zack is one of the best PT guards in all NKY and I glad he is a Thoroughbred!

You people realize this is a site of opinions. I was at the game, saw with my own eyes. Yes, he is very good. I felt he was overmatched against Holmes quickness and the speed of the game. There were several early unforced turnovers. This kid is going to get better and better. He is a tremendous athlete. Will be fun to watch him and the Holmes sophomore in the next few seasons. Guard play was the difference, if NCC got any, they may have won. It's not just on him, he's not the only guard on that team.
