Why are NCC basketball players not playing football?

Featured Replies

I think it's good NCC opens up the gym and let's whoever wants to play come up there. That's how it used to be at the Ft. Thomas Armory all summer. You didn't have to worry about finding a competitive game. Kids from everywhere came all the time.

I spent summers playing with guys from Highlands, NCC, Campbell Co, Brossarters, and whoever ever else showed up at the Armory. You'd occasionally get your Bellevue Wikle's or somebody like that from Kenton Co. Everyone knew it was the place to play. All were welcomed because all wanted to get better and play in competitive games. Everyone played hard and got along with each other. I'm not sure if that exists now. Maybe it does at NCC. We were all rivals during the season, but friends on and off the court during the summer. We appreciated whoever came to play basketball. Sounds like that's what NCC is doing now and that's a positive thing.

That's either a stretch or a major insult to Highlands football program. Highlands football program has 22 state championships. NCC has had a few decent teams on the basketball court the last few years. They've had some good players and some exciting games. They are one of the best teams in the 9th region several years running. But, what have they won? The only have 1 regional title in the last 25+ years. That was over a decade ago. That's a ton of good players over the years that left without a title. Hardly on the level of Highlands football where every kid is leaving with a fist full of rings. I "liken" NCC basketball to Boone county's football ball program. A few good runs here and there, but never reached the pinnalce.

I'm a highlands guy and I respect your comment. But lest be realistic here if football was like basketball where there are no classes highlands wouldn't of won all those state championships. One word SHAMROCKS. It is harder to win in basketball and baseball state championships in the state of Kentucky. IMO

Sorry Jack no the kids went to NCC, and went on to play college ball.

You are out of line Jack, this gym time was not at the School first of all, and there was no coaches there it was parents, I know I was there.

That has nothing to do with it, going to St Therese or St Joe is a Catholic rule not a State rule.

Again my question, can a kid from say Newport Middle School or Highlands High School attend these sessions or are they strictly reserved for those that have been invited to participate?

Say a kid from Newport or Highlands come, Jack of all trades will say that Ncc is recuiting these kids then.

Your whole post is an assumption that the kids in question even want to play sports in college. Just because YOU think a kid is better served playing football doesn't mean he should play football. Believe it or not everybody doesn't like football and some kids simply like the game of basketball better than football. Yes. It's that simple.

This.

You do know you will have to give up your Ft. Thomas passport if you keep making logical statements that may not agree with the masses?????? :D

My son was coach by Mr. Pangallo in Aau not once did he persuade my son or me to that he wanted us to go to Newcath. His goal was for the kids to all play High School Basketball. My Son choice was Highlands and Mr Pangallo was very happy for him. Great Person and Great Family. They would help any kid out in basketball no matter what high school they attend. I know for a fact during the summer they welcome any kids to come up in their open gyms even if they don't go to Newcath.

That is what I was looking for. So my son and some of his buddies could go up there during the summer and play in pickup games. Thanks for someone finally answering the question. I can bet the competition is pretty good in these games and if Jimmy is there to oversee what is going on, all the better.

Will he??????? You just may see my kid and some of his buddies up there playing this summer. And no fear about recruiting because they chose Highlands a long time ago.

That is not what was indicated in other parts of this thread.

Good for them. Glad they could parlay their NCC career into playing college ball as if that had anything to do with it. So Highlands lost out on a few kids that went to the hill to play, but I really do not think it had any impact on Highlands football program the last I checked.

Lol. I'm a Highlands Football Fan. It is amazing what the football Coaches and Players have accomplish. Baseball and Basketball in Kentucky is just hard to win State Titles. I'm just a fan of high school sports and want Highlands and Newcath to succeed. Have friends in both Schools that will last forever.

Im in my 30's and if I wanted to work on my game I know Jimmy would help me out at any gym. Back in my day there was all kind of times in jr high we all went up to the hill and practiced with adults. There were always a handful of kids everyone knew were not going to NewCath there working and getting help. Nobody cared it was all about young men who were willing to listen and work on their game.
