Notre Dame 104 Louisville 101 (5OT)

Featured Replies

I didn't see the game but I saw on Twitter this morning that some ND player had 17 points but never played a minute of regulation.

If so that sounds like some sort of record!

To say the least, UL has not played well in end-game situations (6 of them last night). They've lost 3 heartbreakers----ND, Syracuse and Georgetown. It seems that the Cards are not getting the points off turnovers like they used to. Pitino says one reason for this is that they are not scoring and thus cannot set up the press.

Pitino/UofL need to ship Russ Smith to some remote outpost in northern Alaska. Louisville should have won this game. He tried to do it all by himself in several if those last second O.T. opportunities.

I heard they tried, but Russ missed the boat at the last second.

Garrick Sherman. ND had no choice with Grant, Cooley, and Knight fouled out. It's not like Sherman had never played before, he was starting at the beginning of the year. Also keep in mind that they played 5 OTs. That's 25 minutes, more than a half.

That senior leadership and experience really shining through with Louisville. (Roll Eyes)

Considering they only have one......what are you getting at?

This one falls on Rick.....Russ was Russ (though I was furious he didn't dish on that 3 on 1).......my wife and I noticed the same thing....Rick continued to admonish his players and their mistakes.....Mike Brey was lifting his team up, at all times...imploring them to raise up.....to keep fighting. This loss falls on Rick...I'm sure he'll spin it another way. I hope he made his point to the team.

Well I should have said experience, oops. I think you can figure out what I was getting at, but just in case, I was alluding to the media argument that you have to have experience to win these sort of games and go deep in March, blah blah blah. Russ Smith has been around a few years. One would think he would make better decisions in late game situations as he's seen these types of situations before. This experience doesn't seem to be helping Louisville in close game situations. How's that?

^ While I agree, and it is indeed frustrating.....this seems to happen every season....now, if the post season ends up a disaster, then there will be answers that need to be given.

I'm still hoping they'll hit their stride around March like they did last year, and I'm still hoping that one of these days Siva and Smith will play with a little more resolve in late game situations, but they are a very frustrating bunch at times.

MOST times.
Poor Coaching cost the Ville.

1. Poor free throw shooting- they don't practice

2. Not using his bench until forced too

3. Inability to draw up a play in final seconds

Russ should be investigated for betting on this game. I am sure he bet against his team.

I said that 20 times last night!

I'm not sure how anyone can feel comfortable predicting a deep UL run with Smith as the front man. He is all kinds of crazy...

It felt like one man against the world many times last night when Russ had the ball. Regardless it was a big win for Notre Dame and they scrapped until the very end and pulled out a victory. Can't take anything away from those kids.

The guys on ESPN said on the pregame that Smith was one of the favorites for player of the year in college basketball.

He hasn't been following it lately then. Smith has been mentioned since the three game skid and after last night, certainly be talked about again.
