February 1, 201313 yr I like Rolen & think he'd be a good veteran presence, but I'm fine with whatever the Reds decide to do.
February 1, 201313 yr “I think there’s a chance we get something worked out,” Jocketty said. Jocketty: There?s a chance Rolen returns | Cincinnati Reds
February 1, 201313 yr I'll take Roles off the bench over every other bat they had last year. The problem is, will Dusty see it that way?
February 1, 201313 yr I never like making a player look over his shoulder...................What effect does this have on Todd Frazier, especially the first time he goes into a slump...............One thing to have veteran backup players........It is another thing to have the former starter from the year before as your "backup"
February 1, 201313 yr No issue with the deal. Dusty and Walt have both already said, regardless of what Rolen decides Frazier is the 3B now. He'll be a valuable asset off the bench and in the clubhouse.
February 1, 201313 yr The problem is, will Dusty see it that way? Haven't they stated that Frazier is the third baseman? It would seem that Rolen would only be used one day a week or if there's an injury and Frazier needs to play another position. Time will tell but I doubt anyone, including Rolen, feels he will be healthy enough to play 5 days a week throughout the entire season.

I think he's a VERY valuable asset, even just sitting the the dugout.
February 1, 201313 yr Nooooo let Engelbert Humperdink start singing "PLEASE RELEASE HIM ...LET HIM GO!!!" Grandpa Rolen HAS been a great player. Let's not take away from Frazier and Hanrahan. Baker is scary with someone like Rolen. He'll put him in the lineup "to keep the juices flowing," bat him against a great pitcher because of his "vast experience," and use him for defense here in the golden years. Rolen should be in the Hall of Fame probably BUT in 5 Years, Scotty don't make us wait six retire now. Remember Pete Rose's last year and that great .219 batting average. :ohbrother::idunno::confused:
