The wife and I ate at Allyns for the first time last night. We both loved it, very good Gumbo and the Cajun pasta was equally as good. We are already planning our next trip back in a couple of weeks.

Heard of a place a little north of the city. Smoq? Person I talked to just raved about it.

Ate in Belluevue at the Elusive Cow. Really good. Nice place. Used to be Skinny Legs. Food is locally sourced. Nice beer selection.

 

Hopefully you tried my namesake on tap. Not a bad wheat beer. Its Bellevue by the way. :sssh:

Elusive Cow is a little pricey but I didnt mind paying it for the organic beef and fresh vegetables.

 

I tried a great Mexican joint for the first time at Lunch today in Newport on Monmouth St.

 

 

La Mexicana......pretty good authentic Mexican food. Better than Anitas or Rio Grande IMO.

I thought the Gumbo was better than the Jumalaya but both were very good.

Finally made it to The Eagle in OTR Saturday night.....Had heard nothing but great things, so expectations were incredibly high, and it blew them out of the water....Phenomenal. We got 2 orders of Brown Sugar Bacon (if you like Bacon, you should probably just order 4 of these and call it a meal), a side of their 5 cheese Mac & Cheese, a side of their homemade spoon bread, and 2 fried chicken sandwiches (the spicy pickles and mayo are out of this world good). To top off the great taste, it cost less than $30 for all of it.

 

One downside is the wait. When we got there (7:45) we were told they couldn't guarantee us a seat until midnight. We were the 41st group on the wait list. Ended up getting seated around 9, and that's only because we're friends with a server.

Absurd. Every time I've been there the crowd has been very diverse. Same guy owns Bakersfield, which also attracts a diverse crowd.

Glad to hear that, because all the reviews I've heard have been pretty much raving, and I've been looking forward to making it up that way. I was hearing it from a current employee at The Eagle....I had a hard time imagining someone opening their restaurant in OTR and having a problem with a diverse customer base, but the guy kept going on and on about it.

I'll ask the girl I know that works there if she's heard anything of that nature, but like I said, if that's his motive, it isn't working. :lol2:

Have you checked out "TOP 10" up the road a bit across from McDonalds? New bar that recently opened in that little strip center by subway. I peeked in the door a while ago and saw what looked like beer pong tables???
