I've never understood Meinken.......Am I incorrect in that both HC and Holmes use that field......That should be two organizations taking care of it............double the care....right?

Meinken is a city owned field. The city maintains the field and all the maintenance. Up until the last couple of years Holmes and Holy Cross were not allowed to do anything to it.

But didnt the Reds help sponsor the field a couple years ago?

Anyone remember the old new cath field up on the hill? Short porch in left, football team practiced on it and the sun set right behind home plate. Worst field ever. Hitters dream and pitchers worst nightmare.

I do remember it. Played there a few times.

Hard to believe but in the early 70 it was the best field around, grass infield well maintained, with the new bats it was the end of that field.

Well I can tell you that by the mid-70's it was atrocious, so the "good old days" certainly didn't last long.

Played from 1965/1968 at both location (Meinken and NCC on the hill) and they were both a mess!

NewCath's field? I don't remember it that way.

Maybe late 60 I remember being in class and Foster from Homes hit 3 hr. I think it was a regional game.

Seen some nice looking fields this year. From a strictly aesthetic/fan point of view as I don't know how the field plays, I'd go with

St.Henry with Walton a very close second if not better.

Also, SK and Boones setup was nice.

When Denny Bohman was Park and Rec Director the Covington managed fields were great. We used to see guys at the compelx at 7AM on Saturday when it was rainy trying to make things playable. Once he ran for Mayor and left that position, it went to hell in my opinion. Especially the fields at old FOPA (Cappel). They now purchase skid after skid of stay dry. Great for getting a game going, but they become a dust bowl and compacted very quickly.

 

As far the Reds money, it repaired fencing, safety rail, Press Box stuf and some maintenance equipment. The problem is it also opened it up for use by all Covington knothole, AABC teams. That's a lot of games on Grass. Also, the Semi Annual licking river flooding doesn't help either.

I hope you are kidding. I was there yesterday and the outfield looks like a goat path. The dimensions of the outfield are so short it's ridiculous!! One of the worst not nicest in my opinion..
